Guide to Defeating Cornelis in Constance

Guide to Defeating Cornelis in Constance

Cornelis is one of Constance ‘s main bosses  , and I recommend leaving him for last. You know, there are four main bosses in total that each award a Tear (you need four for the final boss), so of all of them, leave him for last.

It’s not a particularly difficult boss, although it’s also true that the fact that it was left for last is quite noticeable, in the sense that at this point our protagonist is already more powerful and we also know how to handle the game better.

By the way, it’s highly recommended to use the double jump ability; here’s its location and that of all the Brush Techniques .

Boss Location: Chaotic Carnival

Cornelis's location in Constance

Finding Cornelis couldn’t be easier, as he’s in the first area you enter upon arriving at Chaotic Carnival (the orange zone). Specifically, he’s on that carousel-like structure with horses where you can speak to an NPC (Cornelis) who gives you the quest ” Round and Round .”

Completing this mission is very simple, as you only need to find a kind of “eye of Sauron of light” scattered throughout the area (I’m referring to the entire Chaotic Carnival). These are very visible; there’s no way you can miss them, but remember to interact with them.

Cornelis’s Attack Guide

This fight is divided into 3 phases. Each one involves reducing the boss’s health to zero; after that, it restores it and the next phase begins.

Cornelis, Unbridled Anger

In this first phase, the boss will constantly jump towards one of the two side walls, grab onto the wall, and then perform one of these two attacks:

  • Wall-to-Wall Punch : The boss dashes in a straight line from one wall to the other with his fist raised. Basically, you don’t have to do anything; you just stay on the ground.
  • Ground Slam : He dives towards you. You have to jump and use the downward dive attack to hit him and bounce off him (you can perform a Brush Thrust beforehand to quickly time both attacks). When the boss hits the ground, he also creates a row of spikes on the ground (remember that you can bounce off them with the dive attack).

Occasionally (though much less frequently) it also performs an attack where it leaps upwards (disappearing from the scene) and then falls like a spinning top. It will remain in this spinning mode for a while, moving slowly along the ground.

The best strategy is to wait until he hits the ground and then strike him repeatedly with a diving attack that bounces off the ground. After a while, he’ll become dazed, allowing you to easily attack him for a short period.

This phase is very simple. Once you’ve reduced its lifespan completely, the next phase begins.

Cornelis, the Unrestricted Pain

Now you’ll fight against “the other Cornelis” (the one who was standing still on stage looking dejected). His attacks are completely different :

  • Cry : It throws two streams of tears to the sides that fall downwards while slowly moving in circles across the screen. Stay in the gap between the two streams of tears and move with it to avoid taking damage, while hitting it with an upward Brush Thrust.
  • Teleport + Tears : He teleports and throws several tears in a circle, repeating this several times. Simply dodge the tears. When the attack is completely finished, he hovers motionless in the center of the screen for a while; take advantage of this to hit him as much as you can.

Another fairly simple phase and again, when you lower all its health, it will move on to the next and this time final phase.

Cornelis, the Shattered Mentor

Now the Cornelis from phase 1 reappears while grabbing the Cornelis from phase 2. The first thing it will do is perform a powerful dive attack in the center of the room, so move out of the way and then jump because it will create those spikes on the floor.

This phase is like the first, but considerably more complicated. To begin with, as the boss moves along the walls, some tears will fall from the sky, and his other attacks will improve:

  • Wall-Wall Punch + : It’s the same, but now it will launch a column of tears upwards, which doesn’t affect you. I think those are the ones that then fall downwards almost constantly.
  • Ground Slam + : Same attack, but now slam the ground with the other Cornelis, which greatly increases its range. When it lunges at you, jump back slightly and perform the Brush Thrust + Dive Strike combo. It takes a little practice to get the hang of it, but you’ll get it.
  • Whirlwind + : Now he also sheds tears while spinning like a top. You have to try to stay as close to him as possible while bouncing off him with the dive attack.

Additional Tips

There’s not much to say this time, but remember these 3 inspirations as I consider them essential:

  1. Sustenance : To heal you with Brush Thrust.
  2. Warrior Pose : Positioned so that it has inspiration on all 4 sides. Greatly reduces damage received.
  3. Dark Embrace : Removes the damage you receive when using the air dash while corrupted, and instead, you deal damage with that dash .
