Guide to Defeating Border Warden in Silksong

Guide to Defeating Border Warden in Silksong

Border Watcher is a secret boss in Act 3 of Hollow Knight Silksong who is actually quite well hidden, and if no one tells you his exact location, it’s quite likely you won’t be able to find him.

This is a border guardian creature (I wonder why it’s there) that wields a greatsword and has some pretty dangerous attacks. However, there’s a strategy I’ll recommend in this post that will make the battle quite easy. So, without further ado, let’s get started!

How Jet Lucky 2 Crash Works

Location: Karak Sands

Border Patrol Location in Silksong

The Border Warden is located in Karak Sands, as indicated in the image above. As you can see, it’s in the southwesternmost part of the area. To reach it, you must use the Thirsty Flight ability, which you’ll acquire naturally during Act 3. If you don’t have it yet, keep progressing; you’ll receive it shortly after leaving the Abyss.

You probably remember that in this area you have to hit some kind of yellow orbs to make branches or roots appear, creating a path you can follow. On your way there, you’ll have to hit one of those orbs to continue the path backward and upward, eventually reaching a dead end, which is where you need to use the Silk Flight (looking at the picture above will give you an idea of where).

Border Patrol Attack Guide

These are all his attacks:

  • Jumping Giant Slash : He slashes upwards while performing a high vertical leap, then dives down to the ground with another slash; he falls vertically but tries to get a little closer to you. The best strategy is to double jump backwards and then time his fall so you can hit him as he lands without being hit in the process. It sounds more complicated than it actually is. You’ll recognize the attack because he’ll crouch slightly with his greatsword pointed downwards.
  • Frontal Strikes : Attacks forward (from the ground) with a slash or a combo of slashes. Whatever he does, it’s best to use the Downward Aerial Strike to hit him and bounce off, then try to hit him from behind. You’ll recognize him because he raises his sword.
  • Jump Slash : Perform a half jump forward while slashing with your greatsword. Repeat this with a double jump backward, then strike as the opponent lands.
  • Dig : It burrows into the ground; you’ll be able to see where it’s digging because you’ll see dust on the ground. The idea is to get out of the dust zone, as it will eventually emerge from the ground using its Gigagate Jump.
  • Block : As seems to be the norm in Act 3 of Silksong, this boss can block some of your frontal attacks.

After you hit him a few times, you’ll hear him make the typical scream that usually indicates a new phase is beginning. In this case, however, there are no more phases because the boss will freeze and then disappear.

Strategy and Tips

The strategy I mentioned earlier to make this boss quite easy is as follows: Basically, you’ll be waiting for him to attack and responding with a Double Back Jump, then hitting him as you land . This works for most of his attacks, except for his frontal attack, where you’ll have to land on him to bounce off with a Downward Air Strike.

Doing this will make it fall easily. To heal yourself, do the usual thing: jump as high as you can to heal in mid-air; if you do it when it uses one of its attacks, even better.

I used my usual Reaper build : Magnetite Dice, Fractured Mask, Druid’s Eye, and Longclaw, and I maxed out the Needle. The final upgrade is obtained during the End’s Rapture quest .

Reward for Defeating Him

Defeating him grants you the Gray Memory item . This item is purely decorative; you can place it in your Tinker Bell house as decoration, and that’s it.

And that’s it! What did you think of the fight against Border Warden in Hollow Knight Silksong ? Isn’t he a very interesting boss? Were you expecting a second stage like I was? Leave a comment!
