The Best Silksong Build (Reaper Build)

The Best Silksong Build (Reaper Build)

This is the first build I’ve created for Hollow Knight Silksong (I have others prepared for the next few days) and I’ve chosen this one as the initial build because it’s the build I used to complete almost the entire game on my first playthrough and I consider it to be the best build in the game.

This is a Reaper’s Crest build , and it’s a very tanky setup, meaning Hornet will be incredibly resilient. Its main strength is the massive Silk regeneration you’ll gain, allowing you to heal yourself or use Silk Skills (when you don’t need to heal) very often.

That’s what makes it stand out the most, but I’ll tell you right now that it has other advantages and it’s the build I recommend most to everyone in general. Now I’ll explain in detail how you can create it, all its pros and cons, and why it works SO well.

How the Grim Reaper’s Coat of Arms Works

  • Maximum Slots : 3 Turquoise Tools, 3 Yellow Tools and 2 Red Tools.

The Coat of Arms of the Grim Reaper stands out mainly for 2 reasons:

  1. It features attacks with a long range and a high defensive component.
  2. When you heal, your next 3 hits (if you get hit you lose the effect) generate Silk orbs that, if collected, restore some Silk to Hornet.

Of course, you must equip the Reaper’s Crest, which is actually a Crest that you get practically at the beginning of the game, so from the start you can start working on this build and that is yet another advantage.

Turquoise Tools

  • Druid’s Eyes : Hornet regenerates a little Silk when it is hit.
  • Longclaw : Increases the range of Hornet’s needle attacks.
  • Fractured Mask : It’s like an extra life mask that will be consumed when Hornet is about to die. It’s like a life preserver.

If you add to that the fact that Hornet will recover Silk when hit and that she can also generate Silk through the orbs that appear after healing and hitting enemies… you have a considerable Silk regeneration combo . That’s the key to this build; you’ll be able to heal yourself a lot.

Longclaw is another essential tool, and you shouldn’t underestimate it. It’s true that the increased range of the Needle’s attacks is smaller, but I assure you that even that little bit makes a huge difference. That extra range will allow you to hit enemies from a slightly safer distance, which leads to an even more defensive playstyle, which is perfect for this build.

Furthermore, you’ll see how often, even with the slight increase in reach, you’ll land some very close shots. We could say that Garralarga is something of an advantage that allows you to play at a slightly safer distance and increases your probability of hitting your shots.

Landing more shots means:

  • More Damage : Hits that might not have landed without this advantage represent a loss of damage. This is especially noticeable against fast-paced, challenging bosses.
  • More Silk Generation : Successful hits generate Silk. More Silk means more healing. More healing means more Silk (the orbs you can collect).
  • More Resistance : As I mentioned, a missed hit sometimes results in taking damage.

Let’s move on to Fractured Mask, perhaps the most dispensable tool, but it’s there because of its life-saving function (it’s saved me countless times). Everything in this build is geared towards being more resilient, so it’s great to have that “life insurance” that saves you from what would have been certain death (even if it only works once).

Furthermore, given the high amount of Silk and healing capacity of this build, the probability of that insurance paying off and turning into a comeback is much higher than in other builds . That last hit that would have killed you might be the one that allows you to heal, and if you heal, you can generate more Silk to prepare for the next heal using the hits that generate orbs. If you’re not so lucky, at least you know you’re very close to being able to heal and start your comeback.

In part, that’s what’s so amazing about this build, how easy it is to recover from a hit and heal yourself .

Yellow Tools

  • Magnetite Dice : Each hit received has a small chance of being negated. The probability increases with each hit received and resets when the tool negates the damage.
  • Ascendant Grip : Allows you to hold onto walls.
  • Compass : For convenience, I find it incredibly lazy to go without a compass even if the boss on duty is nearby.

The most important is undoubtedly Magnetite Dice , which is certainly the best yellow tool in the game, as it’s the only one that provides a truly significant advantage in combat (a direct advantage, not just a utility advantage). It’s another “life insurance policy,” only this time it’s a policy that works more randomly.

Anyone who’s tried this tool knows it’s amazing and procs very often. It’s a passive damage reduction buff, and when it activates, it’s fantastic. Since this build ultimately follows the strategy of… “I dodge and heal for more damage than my enemy deals,” this is an essential tool.

Ascendant’s Grab is purely for utility; being able to cling to walls is crucial in many of the game’s encounters. It’s essentially another evasive tool, which is especially useful in this build.

Red Tools

  • Mechanical Fly : Summons a fly that attacks enemies on its own and disappears after hitting 4 times.
  • Hozcurva : Launches a kind of boomerang with a long range.

Red tools aren’t the core of this build, but they’re still very useful and add a lot of value. Furthermore, the ones I’ll recommend fit perfectly into this build .

The Mechanical Fly is undoubtedly the best red tool in the game. You just need to keep using them occasionally, and they’ll deal passive damage on their own while you focus on your own strategy. They do a lot of damage, and they’re incredibly useful.

Hozcurva allows you to attack from a very safe distance, which fits perfectly with the defensive nature of the build and again, it does quite a bit of damage.

Silk Skill

Generating a lot of Silk not only allows you to heal more, but also lets you use more Silk Skills. You’ll only use Silk Skills when healing would waste masks.

The one I recommend is undoubtedly Cross Stitch, due to its dual defensive and offensive capabilities. Essentially, it’s a parry that’s incredibly easy to use and deals significant damage over a long range. You can use it to block an attack and then respond with a high-damage strike.

Pros and Cons of the Build

Finally, a list of the advantages and disadvantages of using this build.

Advantages

  • High silk generation.
  • Enormous range in your needle attacks.
  • Heal very often or Silk Skills if you don’t need the cure.
  • Hornet will last a very long time.
  • Very comfortable build for exploration.
  • The running attack that lifts you into the air is very useful.
  • The downward attack in mid-air has an absurd range and allows you to use the “bouncing off enemies” technique with extreme ease.
  • You can build it fairly early in the game.
  • The Injector Band + Multipurpose is another good combo to consider for healing 4 masks instead of 3 without sacrificing healing speed. Based on my testing, I recommend the tools I’ve already mentioned, but this is still a good alternative.

Disadvantages

  • Lower damage than other builds.
  • No matter how resilient you are, if you don’t manage the “resist and heal more damage than you receive” factor well, you’ll eventually fall. This build makes you VERY resilient, but of course, you’re not immortal.
