The Manipulator is one of the bosses in the Chaotic Carnival area of Constance and is not a very difficult boss, although it is true that it can be a bit annoying mainly because it is the typical boss that keeps summoning enemies and also has a platforming phase that can be quite frustrating.
What I do have to admit is that this boss gave me a bit of trouble in his last round of summoning enemies; I was close to beating him several times.

Beyond that… there’s not much more to say about it. If it’s giving you trouble for whatever reason, you’ll see how quickly you can defeat it after reading this guide. Let’s get started!
Boss Location: Chaotic Carnival
Once you defeat The Jester and shortly afterwards obtain the Brush Technique “Dive Descent”, you will find him a little further on, you can’t miss him.
Once you advance a little, you will have to decide between 2 paths (you will have to use Plunge):
- One to the right where the elevator is, and if you continue to the right you will reach a circus tent with the boss inside.
- Another one up to the left where you’ll also find this boss, although technically it’s a different tent.
As you can see, it doesn’t matter which path you take, both lead you to the boss, strange as that may seem.
The Manipulator’s Attack Guide
As is typical in Constance, the boss follows a looping attack cycle until you defeat him. These are the parts of that cycle:
Summon Animated Balloons
The battle begins with him flying while creating balloons shaped like animals and enemies that you’ll have to hit. Doing so won’t lower his health per se, but after defeating a certain number of balloons, he’ll continue with his next attack.
These are the balloon animals it summons:
- Rabbits : They hop around the screen. There are large, medium, and small ones. When the large ones explode, two medium ones appear, and when the medium ones explode, the small ones appear. Always prioritize the small ones to prevent the screen from becoming overcrowded with too many creatures .
- Flying enemies : They fly, slowly chasing you. They come in large, medium, and small sizes, but in this case, they don’t divide. With each hit you land, they grow to the next size, and you’ll defeat them when you hit them at their largest size.
- Bull-Bike : He only summons it during his second balloon summoning cycle. It’s a kind of motorcycle-bull-balloon that moves from side to side of the screen, and the best way to defeat it is with the Drift Drop.
If your screen gets too crowded with enemies, it’s very useful to use the Dive Descent to hit and bounce off them while you’re safe, although you’ll have to be quite precise.
By the way, in the first round of summons you have to defeat all the rabbits; in the second, that bull-bike; in the third, the rabbits and the bull-bike. In short, the flying creatures are more of a nuisance than anything else; it’s defeating the others that allows you to progress .
Explosive Balloons
Lots of explosive balloons appear, falling from the ceiling of the screen. The boss stays at the very top (you won’t even see him) permanently launching these explosives until you hit him, so your objective is to reach him.
How? By using the Dive Descent on the balloons to use them as platforms and jump from one to another until you reach the boss . Be careful because they explode if you get too close.
Balloons also pop shortly after you hit them, so avoid equipping the “Replicas” Inspiration (which launches projectiles when you dash ) or similar abilities. Otherwise, you’ll accidentally destroy some of the balloons you need to continue ascending.
Additional Tips
Now, here are a few tips that might be very useful in this fight:
- I know I’m repeating myself, but the point is that no one misses this. Equip the “Sustain” Inspiration and use Brush Thrust frequently to heal yourself.
- I’ll remind you again because this is extremely important: Don’t equip the “Replicas” Inspiration (when you use the dash in the air you launch projectiles) or you could explode the explosive balloons you need to reach the boss in his second movement cycle.
- When The Manipulator falls to the ground, make sure you hit him hard. Use the Dive Descent in mid-air to land faster, then quickly follow up with the typical combo of 3 normal attacks and a Brush Thrust.
Rewards for Overcoming the Battle
The wonderful reward for defeating this boss is… (drumroll), a few Glimpses and Light Stones! Yes, that’s all, this boss was a bit stingy.
The only good thing is… remember I told you that you can fight this boss in two different locations? Well, if you head to “his other battle hall” now, you’ll get the rewards again without having to defeat him again.
