Cosmic Monarch is another of Constance ‘s main bosses , specifically one of the two bosses you have to defeat in the Astral Academy area to complete the “Cosmic Deception” mission from the NPC “Vincent”.
This mission requires you to obtain the notes from said NPC . Defeating Cosmic Monarch will give you half of these notes; the other half is held by the other boss in the area (I’ll link it at the bottom).
Review of Le Pharaoh slot
He’s not a particularly difficult boss (I’m already losing faith in ever having a boss that’s truly challenging), but he does have somewhat complex platforming, and figuring out how to dodge each of his “phases” can be a bit tricky.
Boss’s Location: Astral Academy

It’s located very close to the NPC “Vincent’s” room (where the Tear is) in the Astral Academy (the bluish-purple area, the southernmost one), but you have to access it from the left side . Take the green route I’ve indicated; you’ll reach that area if you go to Robert’s location from the Ghostly Whispers mission , then turn left and go down.
First, make sure you already have the “Brushstroke” Brush Technique (obtained at Astral Academy) and also unlock the shortcut marked with the “X” so you can reach the boss faster if you don’t beat it on the first try.
Cosmic Monarch Attack Guide
As seems to be the norm in this game, the boss follows a looping cycle of attacks.
Projectile-Launching Ball
The boss starts by transforming into a ball-like shape that resembles a small black hole, and it will teleport around in this form while launching projectiles. Simply dodge the projectiles , and it will eventually move on to the next attack in the cycle.
Purple Pillars
Cosmic Monarch pushes you (does not harm) to one of the side edges of the screen and summons several of those purple pillars that suck you up or down (depending on where the circle is on said pillar, they suck towards the circle) and will launch projectiles while staying safe on the other side of the screen.
You have to move towards him while dodging projectiles with the dash and the Brushstroke technique (you know, the teleport hook on those white orbs on the screen). When you’re close enough, hit him with Brushstroke (or whatever you want, but that ability is very useful because of its good range) and you’ll see the boss stunned on the ground for a while , at which point you know what you have to do.
Avoid being completely sucked in by those purple pillars or you’ll return to the start of the journey, on the opposite side from the boss.
Dark Canyon
After hitting him for a while while he is stunned on the ground, he will begin to launch a kind of black laser beam.
First, it will launch it in a straight line, covering the entire side of the screen, and it’s not short on height either. Sometimes it launches it from below, and sometimes from above.
- When he throws it low, you just stay on the ground and it’s a good time to take advantage and hit him a little.
- When it launches from above, use the teleport grappling hook on one of the two white circles available on the screen, then use the air dash to stay airborne longer. Never use two white grappling hook circles on the same laser beam , or you’ll run out if it launches from above again.
After several of these laser beams, the boss teleports and levitates in the center of the screen and begins firing these laser beams in a circular pattern (clockwise or counterclockwise). He always starts by pointing the beam at the ground and then moves it towards your side in a circular motion, completing roughly half a turn.
To dodge it, use the teleportation hook on the white circle on the side of the screen you’re on. The idea is to use it to jump over him (use the dash in the air for extra speed) and then move to the opposite side from where he’s aiming the laser. Then, do the same thing in reverse, since he’ll fire the beam from the other side, and basically, keep doing that for a while.
Once you’re on the safe side, you can take the opportunity to hit him a little, but not too much; you need to have time to then continue dodging the next laser beams.
Rewards for Overcoming the Battle
As I mentioned at the beginning, the reward is half of Vincent’s notes . When you get both halves, he’ll give you the Tear of this area. You’ll also get some Glimpses and Light Stones, as usual.next boss
