Brush Techniques are a vital component in Constance since ultimately these would be the skills that our protagonist can use.
You have a bit of everything: skills that give you mobility improvements and therefore allow you to reach previously inaccessible areas, skills that help you survive, skills more focused on improving your offensive capabilities in battles…

Anyway, here’s how you can get all of Constance’s Brush Techniques or skills, so let’s get started.
Paint Dive
You get it in the first few minutes of the game ; there’s no way to miss it. It’s basically a side dash , you know, the typical side-dodge move.
The best part is that it’s a dash that makes you immune to damage from most sources, but there are some exceptions. As a general rule, things that are very shiny will still damage you.
It allows you to dodge enemies, pass through spiked walls (including the glowing ones, but these will hurt you) and you can also cross small tunnels horizontally.
Brushstroke

Another Brush Technique you acquire almost at the very beginning. First, you have to reach what is essentially the game’s main base, which is located in that red room with the chat icons, the meditating person, the arrows…
From there, just follow the marked path; it’s not too complicated. Just be careful because I got stuck for a while in the yellow zone and thought I couldn’t continue along the top left. You can get there! Don’t make the same mistake I did.
This ability is a brushstroke that launches paint forward (you can choose any of the 4 directions) and is used to attack and to temporarily remove corruption (enemies or objects of black color with luminous edges).
Wall dive
You can access it after obtaining the first Tear in the game, which is obtained by defeating Brian.
After this you must go to Cavernous Chambers (green area), right to the place I indicate in the image (where the purple Tear icon is).

There you’ll find the NPC Emilie , who will give you the quest “Found Memories.” The quest will instruct you to search among the rubble to her left, as she mentions you might find a tear there.
By interacting with the rubble several times, you’ll fall into a new area of Cavernous Chambers where you’ll find Bertram. He’ll give you the quest “Pompil’s Trouble,” a quest you can’t complete yet. However, if you continue to the right, you’ll obtain the “Wall Dive” technique.
This technique is very interesting because it allows you to climb walls in a very creative and Splatoon- like way .
Brushstroke

This is located in Astral Academy, which is that bluish-purple area in the southernmost part of the map. If you have the previous Brush Techniques, you’ll be able to get there without any problems. As long as you keep progressing through Astral Academy, you’ll eventually find it.
I accessed it from the right side (I think you can also get there from the left, though). To do so, you have to go to the right from the red zone (Catastrophic Crossroads). Remember that it’s located in Astral Academy; don’t get confused and head towards Chaotic Carnival (orange zone).
The ability is essentially the typical grappling hook found in Metroidvanias. In this case, it’s a teleportation grappling hook that you can use on small white circles that you’ll see quite often.
Paint Clone

It’s also located in the Astral Academy. Not where I’ve indicated in the photo, since that’s a recycled photo from the Ghostly Whispers mission post ; I’ve reused it because it’s right next door.
Do you see the room highlighted in purple? Well, it’s the room to the right (I hadn’t explored it yet). To get there, you have to break down a wall in the upper right corner .
Once you’re in the correct room, you have to solve a teleport hook puzzle , and figuring out the right way to get through the last section isn’t easy. Here’s how: you have to jump down, then perform an aerial dash to the left to position yourself to the left of the ball where you can use the teleport hook . Use the teleport hook , and after the teleport , dash to the right.
This technique is quite useful both offensively and tactically. Basically, you create a static paint clone that falls to the ground and which you can explode whenever you want (by pressing the same button you use to create the clone or by hitting it with your attacks).
The explosion damages enemies and also allows you to break walls, which you could already do, right? Well, now you can also break walls from the ground .
