Palettus, the Incarnate Imperfection (what a title, poor thing) is an optional boss in Constance , and I’d say he’s easier to defeat than to find. Don’t miss this boss because he’s the one who gives you the Double Jump Brush Technique (yes, finally!).
You probably remember those enemies in Floral Forge (the yellow area) that attack with thrusts. I’m sure you remember them (there are some on the way to the boss too) because they’re one of those really annoying enemies.

The boss is somewhat similar to them (he has the same thrusting attack), but with a much wider arsenal of attacks, much more health, and he also carries a shield to protect himself from frontal damage (like other very annoying enemies in that same area). However, as I mentioned, for a boss, he’s not that difficult.
Boss Location: Floral Forge

Finding him is tricky. He’s in the purple room, but as you can see, you have to wander around quite a bit to get there.
Although the area where it is located is Floral Forge (yellow area), you can only reach it by accessing a path in Chaotic Carnival (orange area that can be seen on the right).
First, you have to defeat the Replica Jester and keep moving forward. When you reach the new room (it’s the orange one peeking out a bit on the right), go left along a hidden path (it goes through the clouds). From there, just keep going forward, although you can use the picture above for a clearer view.
Palettus Attack Guide
Throw Paint
Palettus throws several paint splatters in all directions, so you’ll have to dodge through the gaps. He launches several streaks of paint, so stay alert until the attack is completely over.
Thrust
He makes a forward thrust in which he moves a great distance forward. He moves so far forward that he usually crashes into the wall and is stunned for a while .
My recommendation is that you jump so he doesn’t hit you, hit him with the Brush Thrust downwards in the air while he’s doing the dash, and then go towards the wall where he’s stunned and hit him with a couple more Brush Thrusts.
Be careful not to become corrupted by using so much Paint, which will depend somewhat on the Paint Bottles you have collected (the ones that increase the paint bar).
Basic Strike
This attack couldn’t be more basic, and he rarely uses it. A short-range forward slash with his brush, nothing more. It doesn’t pose a serious threat, but it’s a good reason not to get too close .
When you lower its health to about 50%, it starts smoking and begins phase 2.
Phase 2
The boss continues to perform the same attacks, there is only one change and that is that you will see some corruption balls appear that will move around the screen and also that now his paint attack is corrupted (the latter is not very relevant anyway).
Those corruption orbs are quite annoying, but luckily you can hit them with Brush Thrust to clear them away, which is exactly what you should do . Also, if you have the “Sustain” Inspiration equipped (which I imagine is the case, given how much I keep mentioning it), you’ll heal a little as you clear the corruption orbs.
When Palettus uses his “Thrust” attack, he’ll summon more orbs of corruption. Just eliminate them, and that’s it; they’re too annoying to leave lying around.
Additional Tips
Beyond what I’ve already told you, basically, your strategy will be to keep your distance and dodge everything he throws at you. You’ll only attack when he uses the “Thrust” (in the way I recommended above).
In phase 2, do the same, but use the Brush Thrust to eliminate the corruption orbs. And, of course, just to be really insistent, equip the “Sustain” Inspiration.
Rewards for Overcoming the Battle
I already mentioned it at the beginning of the post (I couldn’t resist) because it’s probably the best reward you can get in any Metroidvania: the double jump ability . In this game, it’s called “Deadly Leap.”
As you know, every Metroidvania has two phases: Before and after the double jump, so enjoy the skill you’ve acquired.
