Guide to Defeating Brian in Constance

Guide to Defeating Brian in Constance

Brian is Constance ‘s second boss and one of the game’s four main bosses, the ones who grant us one of the four Tears we need to complete the game. I must say, I’m really enjoying the game so far.

As I mentioned with the previous boss, it seems the bosses in this game are tough, and Brian confirms my suspicions because the difficulty has increased a bit. I still wouldn’t say it’s a difficult boss, but the difficulty isn’t bad considering we’re talking about the second boss. If things start like this, I can already see what’s coming later on.

Anyway, I’ll leave you here with the complete guide to defeat this boss, and of course, also how to get to him and the reward (quite juicy this time) that he gives us.

Boss Location: Forge Citadel

Brian is located in Forge Citadel, an area within Floral Forge (the yellow zone). You can only access this area via the elevator, which you’ll easily find in Floral Forge, and to repair it, you’ll need to activate a couple of switches in the area.

You get the first one right after defeating Cubicus , the first boss of the game.

You can access the other one by taking the path on the left side of the room (marked with a blue “X”) from the elevator hall. From there, just keep going and you’ll eventually find the other switch.

Once you activate both, just talk to Earl, the robot next to the elevator door in the purple room in the picture above, and he will allow you to travel to Forge Citadel (there, go to the right and you will find the boss).

Brian’s Attack Guide

Let’s look at their list of attacks:

  • Side Corruption Balls : Several corruption balls will appear, moving across the bottom of the screen from side to side. You have to dodge them, and I recommend using the jump and dash to do so. You can use the Brush Slash to temporarily eliminate them, but it’s best to leave it as a last resort to avoid wasting paint unnecessarily (when it launches 4 balls vertically, you have no other option; use the Brush Slash on the ground, as it’s easier that way).
  • Lightning Reach : A reticle will appear above Constance, following her, and you’ll see a circle filling up within it. When the circle is completely full, a column of lightning will strike Constance. Dodge with a dash just as the circle fills. Meanwhile, you must use Brush Thrust on 3 electric orbs that will appear on the screen (take your time; the priority is avoiding damage). When you hit all 3, the boss will be exposed for a short time, giving you time to attack (you’ll have time for a couple of combos).
  • Wall of Lightning : The entire screen fills with lightning, and you’ll only see a small column as an opening. You’ll definitely want to be in that opening because lightning will strike all over the screen except through it. As soon as you’re safe, be ready because it will attack several times in quick succession.
  • Summoning Allies : The boss rests (he’s immune) and summons a few of the area’s familiar enemies. You have to defeat them for the battle to continue. The good news is that some of those pots that grant you a little health when broken will also appear on the ground, so take advantage of that.
  • Summon Compis + Corruption Balls : This ability constantly launches corruption balls, forcing you to stay on the ground (jumping will electrocute you). Meanwhile, small robots will attack from both sides. The goal is to avoid jumping and instead attack them to defeat them.

It’s important to clarify that the Side Corruption Balls attack will gradually become more complicated, and you’ll have to be more precise with your movements each time.

As you can see, you can only hit him after hitting the 3 yellow orbs that always appear during the “Ray Sight” attack . When his health drops to at least 50%, phase 2 will begin.

Phase 2

The combat remains quite similar, except for these improvements to some of its attacks:

  • Lightning Wall + Side Corruption Balls : It’s the same attack as Lightning Wall, but now you have a constant barrage of side Corruption Balls that prevent you from jumping. The thing is, you don’t actually need to jump… just dash to the open space to go a little faster and you’ll make it, just barely, but no problem.
  • Summon Compis + Earth Corruption Ball : Summons some enemies, the difference is that there will be a Corruption Ball moving along the ground to annoy you, keep jumping to avoid the damage.

Again, you will only be able to hit him after the “Ray Sight” attack.

Rewards for Overcoming the Battle

This is what you get for defeating Brian:

  • Tear of Resurrection : One of the 4 Tears we need to beat the game.
  • Inspiration (Sustain) : An incredible Inspiration, as equipping it will cause Brush Thrust attacks to restore a small amount of health. The boss doesn’t give it to you directly, but you’ll receive it as soon as you return to the elevator and speak to Merle, the robot there.

After the boss fight, you’ll have a real-life event involving Constance, which I won’t talk about, but it’s actually quite thought-provoking and revealing in terms of the game’s lore .

And that’s it! What did you think of the battle against Brian in Constance ? A formidable second boss, wasn’t he? And what did you think of that post-boss event about Constance’s real life? Leave a comment!
