As you probably already know, Toby Fox has released the first chapter of his new project: Deltarune . In this Video Game, despite the fact that the author assures that we are facing a game that has nothing to do with Undertale, we can find things that make us doubt his word.
Among all of them, we once again have indications of the greatest mystery that Undertale had in its day. That’s right, WD Gaster returns in Deltarune and in this post I will make a compilation of all his references in the game.
REFERENCES TO W. D. GASTER IN DELTARUNE
Here you have the entire list of references that have been found so far in Deltarune, and considering that we only have one chapter at the moment (pending update with things from 2), Gaster already has a huge presence in the game.
This is something that did not happen in Undertale, in fact the whole WD Gaster theme was quite far-fetched.
INTRODUCING GASTER’S NAME AT THE START
As was the case in Undertale , adding Gaster as a name was not a good idea, something that returns in Deltarune.
- If we name our container Gaster, the game will restart.
- If we call the creator Gaster, the game will crash.
It almost seems that Gaster himself does not tolerate anyone else taking his name, which is very curious.
MORE WD GASTER FANS?
In Deltarune again we can find some monsters with the characteristic gray palette that Gaster’s followers usually have .
If this time they are followers or not, it is another thing. But if it is true that they say quite strange things, which makes me think that it is surely so.
In addition to that we can find two of Gaster’s former followers who were in Undertale, only this time they are colorful.
- Chapter 1:
- We can find one in the bookstore.
- We will find another one in the car next to Undyne.
THE PHONE CALL
Another of his references appears when using the phone , but this time it only happens if we try to use it in the Dark World.
If you try it you will see that the phone does not work and instead you will hear the characteristic sound associated with WD Gaster, a very disturbing sound. Which is precisely the same sound heard in Gaster’s famous 17th entry, the one written in Wingdings.
THE MYSTERIOUS HIDDEN DOOR
At the end of the game we can freely walk around the town where Kris lives in the World of Light and in one of the most remote corners of this neighborhood we will find a suspicious hidden door that is almost part of the environment.
And what does Gaster paint here? Well, you will see, if you stand in front of the door, which cannot be opened, you will hear a very disturbing sound that is somewhat familiar. Guess what sound it is? It is the same sound that we heard in the phone call, only this one is so slowed down (and therefore more serious) that it does not seem like it.
It would be great to be able to research what’s in there as there’s a good chance either WD Gaster is there or at least a very important place to his plot. Hopefully we can get in when Deltarune is completely finished!
ROUXLS KAARD
And to finish, we are going to talk about Rouxls Kaard that although it does not seem to have any ties or relationship with WD Gaster, it is true that its design is too similar to the one that we always assume that Gaster has (which I insist that in the end they are only assumptions, we don’t know for sure).
Rouxls Kaard is that blue-colored guy who reminds us a little of Papyrus since he makes us do some pretty crappy and easy-to-do puzzles and always with that “you can’t solve this one” attitude.
But if there’s ever a resemblance to the look pretty much the entire Undertale community assumes to be Gaster’s, it’s when we’re in his shop. The resemblance is evident, but from his attitude, it does not seem that Rouxls could be the famous doctor of the Core.
This could mean that we have always been wrong and that WD Gaster’s appearance is not what we have always thought , that his sprite is different. Saying this, I remember that one day I saw a video in which another sprite was proposed as the possible appearance of Gaster, something that could take a lot of strength after what we have seen.
But something that we never think about and that could also be, is that Gaster simply has no form, that he is a kind of entity that wanders between dimensions and that exists but not in material form.
Anyway, these are just theories, for now we can only wait to see Deltarune in full where we can surely advance a little in our attempt to better understand this mysterious character. I hope it will be soon! We have to trust the dog!
