The Piglin are a new Minecraft civilization included in the 1.16 update or better known as the Nether Update. We could say that they are the Villagers of the Nether (they can also open doors) and they are a kind of humanoid boars with an extraordinary fixation on gold.
In my opinion, the Piglins are one of the most interesting additions of this recent update, so I have decided to list absolutely everything you need to know about them in this post. Let’s go there!
WHERE DO THE PIGLIN APPEAR IN MINECRAFT?
The Piglin will appear in the following Biomes (remember that the Nether now has new Biomes):
- Crimson Forest : A forest of reddish tones, it is the place where it will be more common to find them.
- Nether Ruins : It is the Biome of all Nether life (what was there before the update) and is in fact the one that will be found in greater abundance.
- Piglin’s Strongholds : It is not a Biome, but it is a place where they appear. These are random bastions that we will sometimes find around. They are full of Piglin and treasure, so they are very worth exploring, but be very careful.
It’s not an enemy that’s hard to find, far from it, so don’t worry too much about it… you’ll end up sick of seeing them everywhere.
Baby Piglins are much less likely to spawn than Adults, so they will be much less common.
PIGLINS LOVE GOLD
We could directly say that the Piglins are obsessed with Gold , something that we can take advantage of for our benefit. And it is that these enemies, although it may not seem so, are quite dangerous (especially in hard mode) and they will not hesitate to attack you as soon as they see you… unless… you have some Gold on you!
This is a fantastic method to prevent these enemies from killing us in our forays into the Nether; I imagine that when you wear something made of gold they will think that you are one of them… or perhaps when they see you with gold they will begin to respect you since it seems that in their “culture” it seems that gold is synonymous with respect and power. Of course, as you attack them they will go for you to death.
In fact… you should be careful with this, because if by chance you drop a gold object and there is one of these Piglin nearby, you can be sure that he will run to keep that object; in fact, if it is an equippable item, it will even equip it (even if they are not gold items; but if for example one is equipped with a Diamond Helmet and you drop a Gold one on it, it will prefer the Gold armor and will drop Diamond, Netherite or whatever).
If any items are stolen from you, killing them will get them back; This is also a very interesting fact. What they will never return to you will be the Gold Bars, which work as an exchange currency with them, now let’s go with that.
TRADING GOLD BARS WITH PIGLIN
Piglins love Gold Ingots and will even drop a random item from a predefined list if we drop one of these on the ground. Keep in mind that this will only happen with the Adult Piglin, the babies will not give us anything, so be careful.
The objects that can appear are the following (along with their probability):
- 9.46% : Sand of Souls, Leather, Obsidian, Atrocious or Weeping Osidian, Bricks of the Nether, Gravel and Charge Igneous.
- 4.73% : Magma Cream, Ender Pearl, Thread, Quartz and Luminous Stone Dust.
- 2.36% : Fire Resistance Potion , Throwable Fire Resistance Potion, and Iron Nuggets.
- 1.89% : Iron Boots with Soul Speed.
- 1.18% : Tome with the Soul Speed Enchantment .
TYPES OF PIGLIN IN MINECRAFT
We can find different species of Piglin in Minecraft:
- Common Piglin : The one we will see the most, the common one, come on.
- Baby Piglin : Fairly common; these are peaceful and much faster. They won’t trade, but they will have the same greed as the adults and will collect equipment and Gold stuff. They also tend to play with the Hoglins (pretty funny to watch).
- Zombified Piglin : The Zombie version of the Piglin, they act like a Zombie and will keep the Piglin’s equipment (in case of becoming a Zombie, which happens if they are in the outside world or in the End). What they cannot equip will be the Crossbow, in which case they would have a Gold Sword. They also have their version of Zombified Baby Piglin.
- Brute Piglin : A completely hostile version of the Piglin, they will attack you even if you have some Gold equipped (they spend some of the Gold, they just want blood). They are more resistant and hit harder, so be very careful with these.
PIGLINS Y HOGLINS
Piglins and Hoglins interact quite a bit with each other, in fact it is very common to see Hoglin hunts carried out by groups of Piglin; that will only be carried out if they are in numerical superiority, otherwise the Piglins will prefer to flee.
The success or not of the hunt will depend above all on the number of Piglins and Hoglins that participate in it and on various random factors. The truth is that they are quite fun to watch, a curiosity about these hunts is that if a group of Piglins defeat a few Hoglins, sometimes they will mark a very funny dance.
Why do Piglins hunt Hoglins? Basically because that is their food, so if they feel hungry they will try to go after them.
Another curious fact is that the Baby Piglins will play with the Baby Hoglins (a pity that as adults they become enemies) riding on them, they can even create towers of Baby Piglins on the same Baby Hoglin, something very funny if you get to see it.
PIGLINS FEAR SOULFIRE
Another novelty of the Nether Update is the Fire of the Soul (in the link you have more information about this) and luckily this is feared by the Piglin, but be careful, this does not happen with the Piglin Brute (what a bad beast).
It fears both the naturally generated Soul Fire and the Soul Torches or Lanterns, so if you create a camp in the Nether it is almost mandatory to put Soul Fire around (torches or lanterns) so that they do not come near your House. Remember that these can even open doors, so watch out for this.
Keep in mind though that if you attack them they won’t care about Soul Fire and will chase you to death. They fear Soul Fire, but it seems that they will cast their fears aside if they feel threatened by an enemy. So it’s also not a bad idea to carry Soulfire Torches with you just in case, especially if you don’t have some Gold equipped.
THEY ARE ALSO AFRAID OF ZOMBIFIED PIGLINS.
And it is that the Fire of Souls is not the only fear that these humanoid boars that inhabit the Nether possess, in fact they also fear the Zombified Piglin , which are their Zombie version; which is quite curious and again something you can use to your advantage.
DON’T OPEN CHESTS NEAR THE PIGLIN
If there are Piglins nearby and you happen to open a nearby Chest, they will jump at you without hesitation; I think they understand it as you’re stealing from them. It doesn’t matter if you put a Chest you own on the ground and interact with it, they will still attack you, so do n’t even think about it or you’ll regret it.
PIGLINS ARE AFFECTED BY FIRE
Despite residing in the Nether, the Piglin is affected by Fire (both Soul and common); in fact they will die quickly if we burn them or if they fall into the fiery lava, something you can use to your advantage.
Of course, watch out because when a Piglin burns (and this only happens in the high difficulty), if it hits you with the Sword it will also burn you… and given the brutal damage they do… if they burn you on top, it is almost certain death.
PIGLINS HATE WITHERS
Well, that’s right, if the Piglin are in numerical superiority they will attack both the Wither and the Wither Skeletons that they meet.
Are you wondering why this happens? Well, the truth is that I can’t think of anything, but it’s quite a curious fact, isn’t it? If you have any theory or if you somehow know why this happens… feel free to leave a comment below, the truth is that I am very curious about this.
REWARDS OR DROPS OF THE PIGLIN
The Piglin will appear randomly carrying a Golden Sword or a Crossbow, the Baby Piglin on the other hand will never have anything on them when they appear. They also have a chance to spawn with some Gold Armor equipped.
There is a low probability that these objects drop us when killing them , it will also give us 5 experience points (which will increase between 1 and 3 more for each piece of Gold armor they are wearing as long as you or a trained Wolf kill them ). They will also drop anything stolen from you except for Gold Bars.
Piglin Babies will give only one experience point.
