by As you surely know, one of the crucial factors regarding survival in Minecraft is obtaining food. In that sense, hunting is quite good for a start, but what ends up spreading in the long run is having your own garden that I constantly generate in a more or less passive way the food that your character needs.
Previously I already explained in detail how you can build a garden in Minecraft . If you have never created a garden, I recommend that you read that post first, since in it you will see a little of the most basic of these.
However, today I want to go into a slightly more advanced topic within the theme of the garden: The Cultivation of Watermelons and Pumpkins . Why specifically these two fruits? Well, mainly because both are very useful, each in its own way; but above all because both work practically in the same way, so I have preferred to put them together in the same post.
End of introduction! Now let’s get to what matters!
HOW TO FIND WATERMELONS AND PUMPKINS IN MINECRAFT
I’m not going to lie to you, they are very rare objects; but they are not extremely rare either. Both Pumpkins and Watermelons usually appear in grassy areas (not tall grass), although I have rarely seen it in the sand but in this case only next to grassy areas.
I usually see them especially next to water areas, so it is better to look for this type of area: Areas with grass and close to water . However, do not expect to find them easily; In fact, I would tell you not to look for them, just be attentive in your exploration sessions; sooner or later you will see some… but it costs.
HOW TO GET WATERMELON AND PUMPKIN SEEDS
The seeds are obtained in a somewhat different way in both cases.
As for the Pumpkins, we will simply have to put the pumpkin block on the crafting table:
As you can see, we will obtain a total of 4 seeds for each Pumpkin.
Regarding the Watermelons, it is basically the same, it only changes because when “breaking” the Watermelon it will be divided into several slices of it. We must put the slices on the Crafting table in the same way:
We will get a seed for each slice of Watermelon, but unlike the Cabalaza, we will get a few slices for each Watermelon.
HOW TO GROW WATERMELONS AND PUMPKINS
You must create a garden similar to the one I show you in the main photo of this post. The idea is to plant the Pumpkins and Watermelons (as always, with plowed and hydrated soil) as usual, but this time with a slight change.
And it is that these fruits will not grow directly in the place where we plant them, but the fruit itself will be generated in a free block attached to where it has been planted . In the photo you can see the idea, we leave a line completely planted (you can see the roots next to the row of water) and we must have soil with grass in a row parallel to where we have planted. That is where the fruits will appear.
As usual in orchards, remember that you will need a row of water near the crops; as well as lighting and a fence that protects our crops from anything.
Regarding the time in which these grow to create the fruit, because the truth is that compared to other crops such as Wheat, it takes its time. You’d better get on with other things while he’s growing up. Remember that Bees help pollinate to increase growth speed, just like Bone Dust does .
WHAT IS THE WATERMELON FOR IN MINECRAFT?
Watermelon is a very good form of food in Minecraft since each Watermelon can provide us with 3 to 7 stems of Watermelon, so the thing spreads a lot and we directly obtain a product that can be consumed.
GLITTERY WATERMELON
Another more peculiar use is to create Health Potions, but for this we will have to cover a slice of watermelon with Gold Nuggets to get “Shiny Watermelon”. This is the recipe:
You can get Gold Nuggets in the same way as Iron Nuggets. It will be enough to put a Gold Ingot on the crafting table like this:
WHAT IS THE PUMPKIN FOR IN MINECRAFT?
The Pumpkin despite the fact that in terms of food it is not as profitable as the Watermelon, it makes up for it by being able to create certain very useful things as well as curious. Let’s start with a recipe:
PUMPKIN PIE
A very good recipe and surely delicious to heal a good amount of health. We will need the following materials:
- Pumpkin.
- Sugar.
- Egg.
We must place these three ingredients on the crafting table to create the delicious Pumpkin Pie:

CARVED PUMPKIN
The Carved Pumpkin can be achieved simply by using scissors on a Pumpkin . Doing so will give it a Halloween pumpkin-style appearance.
This type of Pumpkin is extremely useful for the following reasons:
- If we put it on as a helmet, we can calmly look at the Enderman’s face without them becoming aggressive; something that can foolishly get us out of trouble or at least it will simply help you to look them directly in the eye without danger.
