Jevil is the Hidden Boss of the first part of Deltarune and is the only really challenging boss in the game. Or well, if you’ve already had problems with the bosses that you have to perform during the run through Deltarune, wait until you face this disturbed minstrel.
And it is that this boss has been designed for those of us who enjoy a lot (those of us who are a bit masochistic like me) with the battle against Sans. Jevil is not even close to the level , but to my understanding this is a small message from Toby saying: “Get ready, the difficult bosses will return”.
The truth is that I am very anxious for Deltarune to come out in its entirety, both to see what the hell is happening with all the doubts that the first chapter raises at the moment and to meet “the new Sans”, and I don’t mean Lancer , I mean to the new boss who again makes us suffer as much as Sans did in his day. Will it be even worse?
HOW TO UNLOCK COMBAT
As I have already mentioned, this combat is totally optional, and if you do not know how to unlock it , it is quite difficult for you to discover how to unlock it on your own merits.
But fear not, I will explain the process below. Basically you will have to collect 3 fragments of a key, but previously you must have spoken with Jevil in her cell, which you will find on the floor «??????» of the castle.
- Broken Key A : You have to go to «Fields» and enter the Evil Cat’s shop, a new dialogue marked in yellow «Strange Prisoner» will appear, activate this dialogue and the Cat will give you the key.
- Broken Key B : Go to “Bake Sale” and head right to the next screen, the Worm screen. There again you must go to the right until the next screen, that of the strange dancers. Here, pass the prima ballerinas you come across, at the next ballerinas, head down the path, keep to the left and you will come across another “ballerina roundabout”, because you must take the path down and you will tell me… there is no no path, if any, but it’s hidden, try it.
- Broken Key C : Go to «Fields» and go to the right, you will reach the gate area, go up, in the new area go up again and there you will find one of those card puzzles. The solution is this: Diamond, Heart, Club, Spade.
Once all of them are collected, you just have to go to the Hammer that repairs everything that you will find in “Bake Sale” if you go up.
Now you have the key! All you have to do is go back to Jevil’s dungeon and talk to him.
HOW TO DEFEAT JEVIL
As is tradition in Toby Fox games, the key to defeating Jevil is to learn his attacks very well in order to know how to dodge them, and to achieve this you have no choice but to give him a few tries. I managed to defeat him more or less in the fourth, if you take longer don’t worry, I’ve given Undertale quite a bit and I’m already somewhat familiar with its mechanics.
Anyway there is an important decision that you have to make, and depending on it you will get a different item in this encounter:
DEFEAT JEVIL IN A PACIFIST WAY
This is how I did it and in my opinion it is the easiest way since we will adopt a more defensive attitude .
You will have to do the following:
- By default you should always use the “Defense” option, so you will get TP and at the same time you will receive less damage from Jevil’s attacks (which is quite necessary).
- Accumulate TP until you can perform the Act «Hypnosis». This will wear Jevil down and he will also deal less damage on his next attack, which will also help you survive.
- As suggestive as it is to use “Pirouette” since it’s cheaper, never use it, it’s not worth it. It is not as effective as «Hypnosis» and it is also a bit random (Jevil’s Chaos) and if you are unlucky the next attack may do even more damage, this added to one of his most fearsome attacks… it can be a true madness.
- When you’re tired, “Pacify,” and you’re good to go.
DEFEAT JEVIL IN A GENOCIDAL WAY
In my opinion , defeating him like this is much more complicated , but in the end, you decide.
Here basically dedicate yourself to attacking as long as you have the necessary TP do «Rude Buster» with Susie . You will lose the defense that the pacifist mode gives you, yes.
ATTACK GUIDE
These are some of Jevil’s most representative attacks:
- Various Projectile Launches : I’m going to put here different attacks that in the end are more or less the same. Jevil will launch projectiles at us from side to side in different ways and to dodge them this is my advice: Don’t look from side to side, focus on looking at the center of the screen and dodge what is coming at you, I don’t know why, but that worked for me and I didn’t have much trouble taking this tactic.
- Rotating Spades : This one is a bit hard to catch, but in the end you end up getting the hang of it. You must quickly see which will be the pike that starts and which side it will move from, from there you must follow the circle that they create. I’m going to put a video at the end that is a bit of a hassle to explain this.
- Duck Carousel : One of the most hated Jevil Attacks in the community, but it has a trick, the duck heads won’t hit you even if you touch them, so you have that extra leeway.
- Scythe Attack : Stick to the wall and see finding the hole left by the scythes. When the bloody red scythe comes into play… I really don’t know how to help you, survive as it is, I had a really bad time in this attack.
- Final Attack : Don’t be intimidated, this attack is easier than it looks. Focus on dodging the falling scythes, the lightning bolts are a bit confusing, but they’re just there to confuse you. You just have to dodge the scythes a little in advance, since the beam hits before you do.
And here I leave you a video despite the fact that I do not recommend you to watch the combat until you defeat him yourself, which is a bit of the grace of the game. Of course, watch out for the video, which comes from Merg , the guy who managed to defeat Sans without receiving a single blow and of course, he has done it again with Jevil, amazing.
