Livestock allows us to obtain different resources from Farm Animals in Stardew Valley . This ability, although it could perfectly well be one of its own, is included in the Agriculture ability . In this sense we could say that Agriculture is a two for one, Agriculture and Livestock.
In my opinion it is one of the best activities that we can do in Stardew Valley, frankly they are all very good. But the fact of having a Farm full of Animals, which by the way, provide a great benefit; pretty cool.
HOW TO HAVE FARM ANIMALS IN STARDEW VALLEY?
To have Farm Animals first of all you have to build their home. You have two options, depending on what kind of animals you want to have.
There are Corral Animals :
- chickens.
- Ducks.
- rabbits.
- dinosaurs.
And Stable Animals :
- Cows.
- goats.
- sheep.
- pigs.
To build the Corral or the Stable you will have to talk to Robin, the Stardew Valley carpenter, there you will see the necessary materials for construction. Later you can have improved pens and stables that will allow you to have more types of animals and in greater numbers. Keep in mind that it takes a couple of days for Robin to complete a build.
Once you have the Corral or the Stable you will only have to go to Marnie’s Farm (which is located in the forest, just below your Farm), buy an animal from her and select which building (corral or stable depending on the animal) you want to be in. this this.
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF FARM ANIMALS
There are several things to keep in mind if you want to get products from animals:
- You must feed them: In this aspect, it is best that they eat the tall grass (which you can cut with the Hoe) that you surely have on the farm. You can also plant it to make it grow by buying Grass Patch from Pierre or Marnie for 50 coins. Another method is to place hay inside the corral or stable for them to eat, this is the only method to feed them in winter, so it is highly recommended that you have a Silo and fill it up. If they don’t eat, they don’t produce and they also get pissed off.
- You must make them happy : Eating the grass gives them happiness, the hay also but to a lesser extent. You should also pet them every day and protect them from the cold (now we talk about this). This will gradually increase their happiness bar and will cause them to produce higher quality products or give you more products depending on the animal.
- That they do not go cold : The ideal is that you put heating in the corral or stable, especially in winter, where otherwise the poor will go cold and that translates into lower happiness. You can buy a radiator from Marnie, one per building is enough.
- Protect them: My recommendation is that you create valleys around the barn or corral and leave them plenty of room to run around (and if they have tall grass to eat, let’s go). This will make it easier to keep an eye on them without them being forced to be cooped up in the pen or barn. If you notice there is a door that you can open in these buildings to let the animals out. But… this is not the only reason, it is convenient for you to go out but at the same time be totally protected, since without the fences an event can occur in which a Coyote eats one of your animals.
We now go from animal to animal to see their details and what they produce.
CHICKENS
The Hen is a farmyard animal that we can introduce in any type of farmyard. Despite surely being the easiest animal to obtain, these produce a treat and will allow you to obtain good benefits even when you are at the beginning of your game (if you are just starting out, here are some very good tips ).
They will produce eggs, they will lay one every day as long as they have eaten and if they are happy they are more likely to produce XL eggs which give a higher profit.
The good thing is that you can make mayonnaise with the eggs for even more profit, as long as you have a mayonnaise maker.
DUCKS
The Duck requires at least one Large Pen to keep and these will produce Duck Eggs and Feathers. Duck eggs are more valuable than Hen’s, as is duck mayonnaise, the only thing is that they only lay eggs every two days, that is, one day yes, one day no.
The feathers are very random and it’s not like they give a huge benefit, but it all adds up.
RABBITS
Rabbits require a luxury pen, which is the best pen of all. These produce wool every other day and can also produce a “rabbit’s foot” with a very low probability, an item that sells for between 565 and 1130 coins.
You can get more profit if you turn wool into cloth using the Loom.
By the way, if you sell a rabbit with full happiness you will get 10,400 coins, not bad.
DINOSAURS
Well yes, you can have Dinosaurs in Stardew Valley, but it is one of the rarest to get. This is also a barnyard animal and requires a large barnyard, to get it you will have to find a Dinosaur Egg in an artifact location.
It is rather for the grace of having a dinosaur on your farm, because the benefit that we will obtain from them is quite small and I would say that any animal earns much more than this one. These will produce dinosaur eggs every 7 days, it is a fairly valuable egg, but you will get one every 7 days, so it does not rent.
COWS
Cows are one of the most productive animals, now we are entering stable animals, which frankly generally pull much better. We can have cows in any type of barn.
They will produce milk every day. We can create cheese with it using the cheese maker to obtain a greater benefit. The good thing is that we can also put an automatic harvester (it is bought from Marnie) so that we don’t even have to kill them (is it said like that?), something that will also apply to goats and sheep, which we are now going with them.
GOATS
Goats produce goat ‘s milk, but they will only do so every other day unlike cows. However, by making cheese with goat’s milk we will obtain goat cheese, which is of much better quality than the standard and sells better. If you age it on top, let’s go.
SHEEP
Sheep produce wool often and to obtain it you will have to shear them or have the automatic harvester. As I have already mentioned with the rabbits, you will be able to create cloth through the loom to obtain a greater benefit.
PIGS
Pigs are by far the animal that gives the most money in all of Stardew Valley, it is incredible the money you can make with pigs.
You must let it go outside to produce (this means that it does not produce in winter or when it rains, but it is still the best), since the product that we will obtain will be the truffles that are unearthed from the ground. Needless to say, truffles give a lot of money and on top of that you can find more than one with luck.
To get even more benefit you have to create an oil can to create truffle oil. Be careful with this oil that can be sold for 1491 if you have the Artisan specialization in Agriculture (at level 10).
