Charon is the only secret boss that exists in Hades , his combat has a higher difficulty than Hades himself as the final boss of the game, unless we activate the Extreme Measures for him in the Pact of Punishment (in that case, yes the fight against Zagreo’s father will be very complicated).
The only requirement that we must meet is to have defeated Hades at least once, after having fulfilled this condition we will be able to choose to fight against Charon. His combat is found randomly, if when he enters his room he has a sack with 300 Charon Pence behind him, we can “borrow” them; After this, Charon will become angry and will transport us to Erebus to begin the fight against him.
This combat is completely optional and the reward obtained will only be useful during the current escape attempt, so facing him will only serve to test your skills and to be able to squeeze a little more out of the game experience.
LOCATION OF CHARON
It doesn’t really have a fixed location, since we won’t always be able to fight with it (it comes out randomly); Charon can appear in his tent, but not in the tents that he sets up before a final boss, but in the tents that appear at the doors throughout our tour in Tartarus, in the Asphodels and in Elysium.
As we have already mentioned before, we will know if we can fight against him if he has a sack with 300 Charon Pence behind his back .
COMBAT PHASES AND TIPS
We will start the fight in a rectangular room where we will find 4 golden vase-shaped statues, these will be very key throughout the fight, since they will be very useful to dodge several of Charon’s attacks.
Throughout the battle, he will invoke gusts of purple mist that will sweep the entire battlefield, the only way we will have to stop them is to hide behind the statues to be able to parry the blow or perform a dash to pass through the middle of the little ones. gaps between these bursts, but be careful, as this attack happens “passively” and he will keep attacking you.
When we reduce his life to 75%, he will break two of the statues to make it difficult for us to evade his attacks; In addition, the pattern of the bursts will change and several will come simultaneously from different ends of the field (to dodge them we will have to execute accelerations between the small gaps that we will find between each burst).
Finally, when it reaches 45% life, it will break all the remaining statues and we will be left in the open, so we will no longer be able to cover ourselves and we will have to dodge the bursts using the dash constantly and intersperse attacks at the right moments until its strength is reduced. life at 20%.
When his life drops to 20% the combat will stop and he will drop a very special reward on the field; once we have picked it up, Charon will return us to a random room in the region we were in before fighting him and we will continue our escape attempt as normal.
Something highly recommended for this combat would be to bring some type of blessing in the spell or in the acceleration that leaves residual damage (like Dionysus’s), since due to the bursts that Charon produces, we will barely have a few seconds to inflict damage on him because his attacks they are very harmful and we have to focus on avoiding them at all costs.
It is also preferable to carry out this fight in the Elysium area or in the Asphodels instead of Tartarus, since we will have barely started our escape and we will have almost no blessing or improvement to help us face this fight.
CHARON ATTACKS GUIDE
These are the attacks Charon will perform during his combat:
- Spectral March : Initially, Charon will head to the west or east of the battlefield and gesture forward with his oar; After this, a burst will appear that will comb almost the entire field, which we can dodge by covering ourselves with the statues or by dashing between the small gaps in this burst as we have already mentioned before. As the fight progresses, he will be able to summon multiple blasts simultaneously and they can come from either end of the field.
- Funeral Slash : Charon will launch a wave that will move across the map to our position, to dodge it we can reflect it with a blessing from Athena or we can cover ourselves with a pillar in the field so that it bounces and changes its direction; as Charon loses life, he will be able to do this attack up to 3 times in a row.
- Stygian Oar : When Charon moves to our location, he will attack twice with his oar, combing an area of almost 180º and inflicting exaggeratedly high damage; It is very important to dodge this attack because he can easily kill us with it, for this I recommend that you try to stay behind his back.
- Darkness : If we stay very close to it, it will emit from time to time a wave that will stun us for less than a second and move us away from it (yes, this wave does not do damage); This move is difficult to evade because it does it without warning, but since it doesn’t do damage and we recover quickly from the stun, it’s enough to do a dash as soon as we recover so it doesn’t catch us off guard.
REWARDS
If we defeat him in combat we will be able to keep the 300 Charon Pence that we have stolen from him, on top of that he will give us an object that we cannot get in any other way, the ” Premium Client Card “.
With the Premium Customer Card, Caronte will give us a 20% discount on all items in his store and in Caronte’s well. The downside is that we will lose this card at the end of the escape attempt, but it will be very useful to buy the Diamond or the Titan’s Blood that we can obtain in his store in the Temple of the Styx.
