Samurai Riot – Definitive Edition is a classic beat ’em up game but with a twist. During the game you have to make several really difficult moral decisions. Play alone or with a friend. Learn combos and take on hordes of enemies. To help you, you also have your faithful pet with whom you can also attack the enemy.
The genre Beat ém up is in my opinion very difficult for whatever it is, it can very quickly become monotonous because you move from left to right in the picture and fight hordes of enemies that attack you, path after path. The same thing applies with Samurai Riot – Definitive Edition but with the difference that the story actually allows you to make your own choices. Each choice affects the end of the story. The interludes are nice with good voice actors, music and sound design.
The problem with Samurai Riot – Definitive Edition is that, among other things, the enemy looks almost exactly the same all the time. There are very few variations on their weapons and equipment but what is worse is that your combos are locked to stand or jump. It’s not like other games where you can make low attacks. Even when I learned all the combos, the game still does not really lift precisely because the variation of the enemy is small enough and once you meet a boss, it is very easy to see its movement pattern and thus be able to cope with the boss by staying away. Not much skill is needed.
Samurai Riot – Definitive Edition works great on your Nintendo Switch . Did not experience any performance issues at all and the game works really well on the built-in screen.
In summary, the Samurai Riot – Definitive Edition is nice and well made, but more time could have been spent on varying the enemy a little more and making the battles more fun.
