IS THE GRAND ÉPÉE IN ELDEN RING WORTH IT?

IS THE GRAND ÉPÉE IN ELDEN RING WORTH IT?

Gran Epée is an Elden Ring rapier noted for its tremendous size as it is almost as long as Sephiroth’s katana and quite thick as well. A bit weird in that sense since the rapiers are usually quite light and so on.

We could say that it is a claymore version Rapier to put it in some way, and although it is true that in terms of builds I have not seen it, it is also true that that absurd range that it has is phenomenal and it has all the appearance of being very good for the PvP. I would use it mainly in a Dexterity or Quality build, although for those types of builds I think we have better weapons (for example the Hound Fang ).

Anyway to mention that it is a weapon that for the beginning of our game is very good and that on horseback pays a lot especially for its range; for the same reason that spears are also very useful, a long range and it is also quite agile for its size.

ATTRIBUTES OF THE GRAND ÉPÉE

These are his stats:

  • Base Damage level 1:
    • 124 Physical.
  • Weight: 6.5.
  • Critical: 100.
  • Protections:
    • Physical: 52.
    • Magic 36.
    • Fire: 36.
    • Lightning: 36.
    • Sacred: 36.
    • Stability: 31.
  • Attribute Scaling:
    • Strength 😀
    • Dexterity: d
  • Necessary Attributes:
    • Strength 15.
    • Skill 16.

We have a decent damage, a bit meh attribute scaling, some protections that are quite good although it is true that in Stability it limps a bit, so it will be easier to be stunned if we are hit. Its requirements to carry it are quite low, so you can carry it practically from the beginning without problems.

I wouldn’t carry it, personally, but I don’t think it’s a bad weapon either; although I must say that for the beginning it is very good (if you are going to build Strength like me, it is better to start with the Greatsword of Heavy  Oathsworn and a little later you get the Greatsword of Guts ). Although regarding statistics we cannot say that it is a crazy weapon, when it comes to its movement kit I think it wins a lot. We have an exaggeratedly high range, more than a rapier it looks like a spear at times, decent damage and a fairly good speed for a weapon that despite its size does not weigh that much (a medium weight I would say, but almost the agility of a weapon light).

In PvP, I do think it will be worth trying it, because in the end that agility and range can come in handy. An interesting weapon to say the least.

LOCATION: SOUTH OF AGHEEL’S POOL

South of Agheel's Pool in Elden Ring

To get the Grand Épée we will have to go to the “ South of Agheel Pond ” bonfire. To the east we will find a bandit camp with a chest (marked on the map with a sword, although the name of the area obscures it a bit), there will be the weapon. Ok, 2 things you should keep in mind about this area:

  1. Not in the camp as such, but in the surroundings (it is marked on the map with a skull) there is one of those weak undead that when defeated, to everyone’s surprise, will turn into a bear as powerful as it is huge. If it happens to you, you will have to beat him on horseback with patience and the famous strategy of “I wait for you to attack, hit you and get the hell out.”
  2. In this area you will also find an important item, especially for Wizards (marked with a diamond), a Scroll of the Royal House , which will allow you to acquire new Spells . He is next to one of the wizards who shoot at us from above (which should be your priority to clear the area because they are very bloody, go stealthily for them and destroy them, they are in the elevated areas).
