by Bretta is one of the friendly NPCs we can meet in Hollow Knight and one of the few that will even come to Muckmouth to keep us company.
This NPC stands out quite a bit among others since the “cockroach” will end up madly in love with our Knight… but hey, a lot of things will happen later that I will also talk about in this post.

HOW TO RESCUE BRETTA IN HOLLOW KNIGHT
To get Bretta to avenge Dirtymouth, you’ll have to rescue her first. You can find it in Fungal Wastes , in the area where the mantises live, very close to the bench at the bottom.
Keep in mind that this place will not be accessible if you do not have the Mantis Claws ability in your possession , in the link in this paragraph you can see how to get them if you do not have them yet, that in fact Bretta is quite close to its location.

The location is not exactly that of Bretta, it is where the wall is that you must climb and that will take you after a series of obstacles towards it.
BRETTA FALLS IN LOVE WITH THE KNIGHT
After the rescue, Bretta will leave for Bocasucia and will end up madly in love with the Knight. He’s funny because her chick is pretty shy and tends to blush when we walk by her.
There will come a point where we can even sit on Mudmouth’s bench with her and when the Knight falls asleep (by sitting for a while doing nothing) she will put on a very happy face.
In addition, we will be able to enter her house where she has a diary and talks about the knight as if it were the most incredible thing there is… However, you will see that over time things will change and she will begin to write more upset because the Knight spends a little from his face… Well, Hallownest has to be saved from the tyranny of Radiance , there’s no time for romance Bretta!
BRETTA FALLS IN LOVE WITH ZOTE
Given that the Knight spends a bit of his face, it is normal that Bretta saw in Zote an opportunity to be with another Knight , because this one is quite similar to our knight and according to his words “he has defeated countless monsters with his life-ending sword… » and well, you should know Zote by now, Hollow Knight’s biggest ghost and singer (naaaa naaaa nananaaaaaaa, Best title screen ever ).
I could have sworn that Zote came to Muckmouth when we defeated him in the Fool’s Coliseum in what is without a doubt the most epic and complicated fight in all of Hollow Knight.
At that moment you will see how Betta will begin to pass the Caballero since she will end up madly in love with Zote and will always be with him. You don’t know where you’ve gotten Bretta… you’ve ended up precisely with Zote hahahaha.
Her diary will change and she will start talking about Zote, her new prince and brave knight. However, she will quickly get a little tired of Zote because oh my, you can’t get any heavier. Zote will spend the day talking about his great deeds and his precepts, something that Bretta loves at first, but since she never (seriously, NEVER) stops, she will end up sick of him. That is something we can check with our Dream Stinger .
His obsession with Zote reaches an extreme in which he even creates a statue of her in his house, a statue not entirely of Zote, but rather of the idealization that she has created of this character.
THE GRAY PRINCE
The good thing is that if we interact with this statue through the Dream Nail we can fight with precisely this ideal of Zote, a non-existent Zote, the image that both Bretta and Zote have of this cowardly and weak (although great, in a way) Knight. And this time it will be one of the most epic and difficult battles in the game.

BRETTA’S DISAPPEARANCE
And this is when Bretta’s story will come to an end and this is something that will happen after defeating Gray Prince Zote for the fourth time, at which point Bretta will mysteriously (well, not so mysteriously) disappear from Dirtymouth.
It seems very normal to me that he has decided to leave, because after his arrival he has had two great love disappointments and it is very likely that he wanted to get away from Bocasucia for that reason. First we have our gentleman, a true hero, but he gets past his face; and in second place we have Zote, a gentleman who does give him more play and attention (too much, how annoying) but who in the end turns out to be a real fraud.
The great mystery of all this is not only that despite the fact that Bretta is no longer Zote, she continues to talk about her great deeds, but that on top of that she completely disappears from the map , where has she gone? Will she be alive she? She didn’t seem like a particularly strong girl, so things look pretty bad, but we didn’t find her body on the map either… so… what happened to her?
