In the Ruins that we will find in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3 , there is a very curious and very bad looking book titled ” Book of Dead Gods ” (the name does not convey much confidence, to be honest) and you may be wondering if you should read it or not. Well you see, the truth is that you should do it and in this post we will explain what you can get depending on how well you manage to read the book (since we will have to pass some readings to do so).
Despite the respect that the book gives as such, you can’t get anything bad from it, only positive things… so don’t even hesitate, interact with it.
In case you don’t know how you can find this book, I will explain the way a little and then we will focus on the dialogues and rewards that we can obtain from it. Let’s go there!
HOW TO GET TO THE BOOK IN THE HUGE RUINS
The Ruins as such are very easy to find since they have a teleport called “Huge Ruins”, but if for whatever reason you have not gone to that area, these are the coordinates (X:285 Y:345). There we will meet some bandits and a certain Gimblebock will start talking to us, you can choose to trick them or kill them, whatever you prefer (they won’t be happy that you are around, so you only have those two options).
If you face them, the truth is that they are quite simple enemies… they shouldn’t give you any major problems. But you should know that you can easily kill two of them if at the beginning of the battle you shoot the rock that is held by a rope in the air. Don’t forget to pick up Gimblebock since he has a Shovel, an object that will be very useful to us.
After this I recommend that you enter through the hole you created by shooting the hanging rock with an arrow . This will catch the enemies at the bottom off guard. Cast a fire spell on the red barrels nearby to get that battle off to a good start.
Then you have to enter through a door that is closed. You can force it, knock it down or you can open it the elegant way, to do this you will have to go to a room that has a large statue (I recommend that you collect a lot of books to sell them, there are many out there) and look behind the statue. If any of your characters succeed on a dice roll, you will find a button that will open the door.
Go to the “closed” door and enter through the next door; Now we are where it matters. First you go to the right, but be careful because there is a quite devastating trap in the central sarcophagus (inside there is a spear of green rarity that is not bad, it is called “The Watcher’s Guide” and the “Engraved Key”). If any of your characters detect it (it will depend on the dice), you can deactivate the trap. The only trap you are interested in deactivating is the central sarcophagus, the others are activated by this one. If you fail, turn-based mode will be activated, in one of the columns there is a button, press it and that’s it (now you can open the central sarcophagus without problems).
With the “Engraved Key” in your possession, now go back and you will be able to open the large door that you will find in front of you. In this area (this is where you will find the NPC who can revive and restart classes; the area is the one I show in the photo above), go through the door on the left and there you will find the book.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BOOK DIALOGUES?
When interacting with the book you will have to choose one of the options that appears, go for the option with which you have the most bonuses in the roll, in my case it is “Force the Lock” since my character has a lot of Strength. The good thing is that if you fail any roll, you can try the others, so it is unlikely that you will not pass this first phase. In the second phase you will have to pass a Religion (Intelligence) roll.
- If you pass only the first phase you will obtain the following : Scroll of Weakening Ray. Give it to a wizard (Gale for example) and right click on the object to learn the spell. It is a very interesting spell as it applies a debuff to an enemy that will cause them to deal half damage with their Strength-dependent weapon attacks.
- If you also pass the second phase : Inspiration for some of your characters, in my case it jumped to Gale and Shadowheart. Inspiration is very useful as it allows us to reroll the dice when failing rolls with said character.
If you fail any of the rolls, nothing bad happens , you just won’t get these rewards and that’s it, so you know.
