Our avatar is called Gitta Barbot and she is 25 years old and deeply stuck in the drug swamp. We get to experience her horrible childhood and now it is up to us to try to lead her to a better future. Our enemy is the brutal Bres Lupus and it is not entirely easy to find a way out of the spiral of anxiety and physical and mental violence. Make quick decisions that affect which path you take and also the end of the game – Do you want revenge or forgiveness? An epic heavy metal soundtrack follows us through the approximately two-hour playing time.
Of Bird and Cage is really unlike any other game I have played. Here we get to experience horrors that are at least as frightening as all the horror games together. But the difference is that there are things that can happen and happen in reality. The premise of Of Bird and Cage is really unique to me, but the problems start when you pick up the controls to play.
At first glance, the graphics feel quite outdated and angular. This is of course due to the fact that this game is not a AAA title with billions in budget, but then I as a game creator would choose another way to go in terms of graphics. In that case, it would probably have been smarter to choose a retro look that they could implement perfectly instead of choosing to try realistic 3D characters. It all becomes very quickly distracting and it makes it harder to get into the game.
Another problem with Of Bird and Cage is that the game mechanics are quite awkward and our avatar is thus difficult to control through the game, but what is worse is that there is little to no control over where the game creators want us to go. It quickly leads to frustration and I found myself wandering around aimlessly for far too long. Understand the idea that the game creators want us to create our own path, but we really needed a little hint about where we should go or at least that we as players could ask for one.
In summary, Of Bird and Cage is really a different game with a really exciting premise. The soundtrack written by Arnold Nesis (and contains members from both Guns N ‘Roses and Epica ) is really good but unfortunately the game falls due to the graphics and the somewhat awkward game mechanics. So the grade is approved but no recommendation.
