GUIDE TO GENERAL ROU IN OCTOPATH TRAVELER 2

General Rou is the boss we will have to face in chapter 3 of Hikari’s story in Octopath Traveler 2  to prevent the Ku empire from arming itself. We’ll run into Ritsu too , but we won’t have to fight him again (I guess he had enough the first time).

The boss is really quite simple, but it has the peculiarity that it will be a 1 VS 1 against Hikari, so having this character well leveled and so on will be quite important since you won’t have the help of your teammates.

Anyway, if for whatever reason he is giving you problems and you are lazy to level , I will tell you what is the best way to defeat him in this post, as we have already done with lots of bosses in this and other games.

PREVIOUS TIPS

The level requirement provided by the game itself is of vital importance, especially in this case where we will only have to face each other using Hikari. The mission recommends level 26 , but the truth is that I would rather recommend that you have it at least at 30 or 32 to ensure victory.

In my case, how I chose him as the main character, because I have him at a very high level and it was a walk; but I don’t know about your case. Try the strategy that I will tell you at level 26 to see if you can do it, otherwise it will be a bit easier. And of course, don’t skimp on improving your equipment, which will be very noticeable in this battle.

GENERAL ROU’S WEAKNESSES

These are the weaknesses of General Rou, in the same way that only Hikari will be able to participate in this battle, the same applies to this boss as well, so we won’t have other bugs around bothering us.

  • Lance
  • Bow
  • Ray

You have spear yes or yes regardless of the Secondary Job with which you have it, so I recommend that you use it. If you take it with a Secondary Job in which it is more common for you to take advantage of another of its 3 weaknesses, well, you know, adapt.

RECOMMENDED CHARACTERS

Hikari in Octopath Traveler 2

A bit of a meme section on this particular boss, but hey, this is how we talked a bit about Hikari’s composition and so on:

  • Hikari : You don’t even need a Side Job since with the Spear you are already very well equipped for battle (especially with the more tanky strategy we’ll follow, but we’ll see that below). Anyway, a good recommendation if you have a hard time with this battle is to equip him with the Apothecary, Cleric or Thief Side Job to have abilities with which you can heal yourself; I would especially recommend the Thief to cause damage while you steal life, the pity is that he has no weakness to Daggers, but in that case I would take advantage of it to hit him when he is stunned and using the maximum boost possible to heal you a lot of life (if you get it). They have damaged a lot, of course).

STRATEGY TO DEFEAT HIM

In my case I didn’t even need to heal him with this strategy, but I guess it’s partly because my Hikari is quite checked; If it doesn’t work for you, follow the advice above about the Thief’s Secondary Job, which is sure to do it 100% without problems.

The case, the strategy is the following: The idea is to constantly use « Vengeful Sword » in order to counterattack the blows that Rou lands on us (since we are alone, it will always hit us, so we do not need to roll «Incite» ). This counterattack is tremendous because despite hitting with the Sword, we will continue to remove a point of shield. Save the Impulse for when you stun him.

If at any time you see your counterattack marks accumulate, I would throw the “Endurance” buff (increases physical damage for 3 turns) in order to cause more damage, especially to take advantage of it when we have the enemy stunned and use everything the Impulse to give our best shot.

When you stun him the key would be to roll Potential and use «Celestial Slash» with 3 impulse (and if you have the «Stamina» buff even better); if you don’t have the Potential you can use «Critical Spear» or any of the learned skills if you have a very good Spear or Bow. You shouldn’t defeat him with this, but it will leave him practically lifeless. The fact is that when he has little life left (it should be after this tremendous blow unless your Hikari is a bit weak) a certain event will occur that will activate the Potential again, so you know: «Celestial Court».

Following this strategy you should defeat him without major problems. If you still don’t get it, you’ll have to level him up a bit, improve his equipment (or leave it for later, you can continue with other bosses).
