BUILD OF THE OUTLAW (DISMAS) IN DARKEST DUNGEON 2

BUILD OF THE OUTLAW (DISMAS) IN DARKEST DUNGEON 2

Dismas the Outlaw is a hero from Darkest Dungeon 2 whose role is that of DPS and is without a doubt one of the best characters in the game (if not the best), there are too many virtues that this character has, honestly.

Anyone who has played Darkest Dungeon 1 will surely have great memories of this character, since Dismas is the Bandit (they’ve changed the name of the class, I don’t know why) with whom we started our game together with Reynauld. We all have stories to tell about these two, but hey, I’m rolling up (I was going to talk about the fateful death of my Dismas from my DD1 game, every day I mourn the loss of him).

Anyway, in Darkest Dungeon 2 he is still a great character since his kit hasn’t changed much at all; The good thing is that now thanks to the Xaminos we will be able to specialize it a little more and now we will be able to have a very lethal Dismas in ranged damage (the one from Counterattacks of a lifetime also we still have). Let’s go with the builds ! Yes, I brought you 2 this time.

COUNTERATTACKS BUILD (EVIL)

We’ll start with the first build , which we could say is the standard Outlaw build ; In any case, clarify that the build below seems to me to be more or less at the same level as this one, a matter of taste, both are very worthwhile.

It is a build that specializes in Counterattacks , as it is one of Dismas’s biggest sources of damage. To make the most of them, we will equip the Path of “Evil”, this has the following effects:

  • If position = 1: +25% Damage.
  • If position = 3: -25% Damage.
  • If position = 4: -50% Damage.
  • By using “Point Blank Shot” you will get a Counter Sign.

Since we will be changing between position 1 and 2 when using the abilities, we will be able to take advantage of that Damage bonus for being in position 1 very well; In this position we can perform a very powerful “Point-Blank Shot” that will also give us a “Counterattack” Sign.

BEST SKILLS

These are the 5 skills that we recommend for this build :

  • Wicked Slash : It can be used in positions 1, 2 and 3 to hit enemies in positions 1 and 2. It is a basic melee hit with good Damage, good CRIT and what is most interesting of all, it has a 20% pierce to death resistance. We will use it mainly to finish off the enemies that are at the Gates of Death or when we do not have much use for “Point Blank Shot” because we have a corpse in position 1.
    • Upgrading it will increase all of its stats, but I still don’t recommend upgrading it because in the end it’s quite a situational ability and you prefer to focus on others.
  • Pistol Shot : It is used in the 3 rear positions to hit the same enemy positions. It is a good ranged attack on a target that also applies “Obfuscate” when we hit an enemy with a “Combination” Sign. It will be our ranged attack for when we need it.
    • By improving its Damage, its CRIT and the best, when we hit an enemy with a combination what we will do is Stun it (which is very key to prevent said enemy from attacking in the next action).
  • Duelist’s Advance : Dismas’s best ability since the dawn of time, it is used in positions 1,2 and 3 to hit an enemy that is in the same positions. It has good Damage, some CRIT, we will advance one position when using it and we will obtain 2 «Counterattack» Signs (which is what we are really interested in).
    • The improvement increases its Damage and CRIT as usual (also that of the “Counterattack”, so it is very key), we will obtain an additional charge of “Counterattack” and incidentally a Sign of “Evasion”… Superb ability, the first you have that you always improve.
  • Aim : A self-applied buff (has 1 cooldown) that removes a “Blind” Sign and gives you a “Critical” and an “Evasion” Sign. We want it mainly to use when blinded to the character so we don’t risk missing and hitting very hard on the next action (and the dodge, not too bad).
    • Enhanced provides an additional “Critical” charge and a “Speed” Sign. I don’t recommend the buff because again it’s a situational ability, focus on the ones you use most often.
  • Point Blank Shot : Ranged Attack with A LOT of Damage that we can use only in first position to also hit only the enemy in the front row. By doing so we will move one position back, we will push the enemy one position back and we will apply an Application Sign. It’s a great combo to do after using Duelist’s Advance (which we’ll do when we’re at position 2, so we’ll move to 1 and after that use Point Blank Shot to get back to 2). In addition we will obtain a Counterattack mark, it is a benefit that the Path of the Evildoer brings us.
    • The improvement will increase the Damage and CRIT, something that in this attack, given how powerful it is, it goes a long way.

The only ability I see replaceable is «Aim», you can change it for « Shrapnel Blast » if you want to have an attack that hits position 1 and 2 enemies simultaneously, something quite key when you have one close to dying for finish him off and in the process hurt the one next to him.

RANGED DAMAGE BUILD (SNIPER)

This build is vastly different from the previous one and as I have already mentioned above, it is also very viable. We will focus on ranged damage and we will have an Outlaw capable of hitting all positions very well and a very powerful “Shrapnel Explosion” ability , this is due to what the Path of the Sniper gives us, which gives us the following:

  • +25% Ranged Damage.
  • -25% Melee Damage.
  • +3 Speed.
  • Shrapnel Blast grants a “Strength” sign.

This allows us to put our Dismas in position 3, something that did not pay off too much in the counterattack build (in this one you should put it in 2 or 3), very key if you already have the first two places in the team occupied and want to a powerful DPS at position 3 that can hit all positions very effectively.

RECOMMENDED SKILLS

These are the 5 skills that we recommend for this build . The ones that we have already explained in the one above, we will not explain them again, in any case, not many are repeated:

  • Pistol Shot : For obvious reasons in this build it spreads much more.
  • Duelist Advance : We will only use it if they move it back to return to the site without losing turns. Not the best.
  • Point Blank Shot : Since it is a ranged attack, it will spread, but we only want it in case they move it to position 1 to go backwards. The problem we will have is that we want to have it in third position and they move it to second position, since this ability can only be used in first position; we could say that it is his weak point, although at least he can continue using his abilities without problems in position 2 (but perhaps for the character who was destined for position 2 if it poses a problem). Ideally, the 2 character should have some ability to get back into position easily (Fugitive Bonnie or Harlequin Sarmenti would be good examples).
  • Shrapnel Explosion : His best Ability without a doubt in this build . Ranged attack that we can use in all positions except the first one that simultaneously hits the two enemies in the first positions. It does less damage than other abilities (from hitting two enemies), but it really does surprise damage anyway. The best thing is that we will also obtain the Sign of “Strength” to cause more damage with the next attack (another Shrapnel Explosion that will now cause a lot of damage and on top of that we will reapply “Strength”, a Pistol Shot… whatever suits you).
    • Enhanced increases Damage and CRIT. It is the first thing you should improve (second would be «Pistol Shot») because it is the attack that you should use the most.
  • Controlled Pair : Ranged Attack with good Damage and decent CRIT that we can use in position 2 and 3 to attack one of the enemies from the same positions. We will deal 30% more Damage if we hit an enemy with health below 30% and will also have 10% Death Resistance Pierce. Ideal for finishing off enemies as it will deal a lot of damage if the enemy’s life condition is met.
    • The buff is very interesting as in addition to increasing Death RES Damage and Pierce to 20%, you will also get the Damage increase when hitting enemies with health below 50% instead of 30%, as well that we can use it before.

BEST TEAMMATES

Leper in Darkest Dungeon 2

Dismas is a very versatile character who can fit into any team in a fantastic way , all you have to do is accompany him with a Tank , a Healer and another DPS like him. Anyway I will give some recommendations of characters that perhaps stand out more with him:

  • tanks :
    • Baldwin : Dismas’s high mobility will help us reposition the Leper if we don’t move him to position 2, at which point we’ll use a powerful “Point Blank Shot” to get him back in place while landing a powerful hit.
    • Barristan : He also performs counterattacks (between the 2 of us we can cover 2 positions since the Man-at-Arms can protect an ally and take his hits, so he can counterattack in 2 positions) and has very good mobility. He will also be able to protect you in an emergency.
  • Other DPS :
    • Sarmenti : The Harlequin is always great to deal with stress.
  • healers :
    • Junia : The Vestal is the best Healer in the game, but the one that does the least damage. In addition, the offensive and defensive buffs that he provides through his Consecrations will come in handy.
    • Paracelsus : Heals less than Junia (still doesn’t heal badly) but the Plague Doctor also deals good damage with his Plague DoTs and can both heal and remove status ailments.
    • Alhazred : Powerful but risky cure, I don’t recommend the Occultist as a Main Healer , but as a secondary one. He has very good damage for a Healer- style class .

That said, he can fit perfectly with all the characters; the only ones that I would not recommend too much are those that must go in position 2, such as the Flagellant or the Bounty Hunter. This is in the event that you take it with the standard build of counterattacks.

BETTER STATS AND ATTRIBUTES

This section will be very easy to define for Dismas since in the end what you are looking for is to do as much damage as possible regardless of the build you have. Our priorities will be increasing his Damage and CRIT without a doubt. If you want to equip him with something that will help him hold up better, his thing would be to look for Evasion.
