AEGISLASH STRATEGY IN COMPETITIVE POKÉMON

AEGISLASH STRATEGY IN COMPETITIVE POKÉMON

Aegislash has been a tremendous Pokémon in Competitive since its appearance in the Nintendo saga , and this Pokémon has plenty of virtues; the truth is that it is something impressive and can always have a place in your team.

In fact, they even nerfed his Stats a bit because he was totally broken… something that will surprise you when you see them because they are still very good, so imagine before the nerf! He was a bad beast!

But the Stats are not its only virtue, so stay to see this Strategy to learn more about everything that this Pokémon has to offer; which is not little.

? AEGISLASH STATS

Its stats add up to a total of 500 points , which is just what I consider to be a good number of Stats… the fact is that this Pokémon will change its stats depending on whether it is in Shield or Sword form (I will explain it better in the Skills part) .

SHIELD FORM STATS

  • Health: 60.
  • Attack: 50.
  • Defense: 140.
  • Special Attack: 50.
  • Special Defense: 140.
  • Speed: 60.

Words are unnecessary… offensively disastrous; but, oh god, what a madness of Defenses, both physical and Special. 140 is a lot and will allow us to resist the blows very well, a pity that the health is low, but if not, hahahaha.

SWORD FORM STATS

  • Health: 60.
  • Attack: 140.
  • Defense: 50.
  • Special Attack: 140.
  • Special Defense: 50.
  • Speed: 60.

As you may have already seen, the statistics are inverted and this time we will enhance the offensive, thus giving us 140 in both Attack and Special Attack (which is crazy); but losing those huge defenses, of course.

The bad thing, especially in its offensive version, is that 60 Speed is very little and that will always be a problem for us, but what more do you want.

TYPE: ? STEEL ? GHOST

Ghost Steel-Type  is amazing:

  • It is immune to poison.
  • He is immune to Fighting, Normal and Poison.
  • It is very bug resistant.
  • It is Dragon, Fairy, Flying, Ice, Psychic, Grass, Rock, and Steel resistant.
  • It is weak to Fire, Dark, Ghost, and Earth.

3 immunities (plus poison status) and 9 resistances is something that few Pokémon can boast and it is obviously crazy and will be greatly appreciated. Now imagine the stamina that Aegislash has in Shield form with these resistances on top… brutal.

And in terms of weaknesses, then 4, which few as such, are not; but compared to its resistances and others… it is that it is nothing. The most worrying of all would be the Ground-type, so we will have to be careful with Pokémon like Excadrill . But without forgetting threats like Talonflame , Cinderace , Tyranitar ,  Dragapult ,  Gengar … among many others. We will also have to be careful with movements such as Pursuit or Disarm, very common and that can annoy us a lot.

ABILITY: TACTICAL SHIFT

Aegislash only has this ability and in fact it is the only Pokémon that has it since it is totally adapted to this Pokémon. Tactical Switch will allow us to switch between Shield and Sword form .

Basically we will start with the Shield form (when going out to the field) which comes in handy to better withstand what they throw at us and just as we attack (only with offensive movements) we will go to the Sword form to hit very hard. When we are already in Sword form we will stay like this until we return to the Poké Ball or until we use the Royal Shield movement, which we will see now in the movements section.

OFFENSIVE AEGISLAH STRATEGY

We will enhance its offensive side, especially the Special (forgive the redundancy):

  • IVs: All perfect.
  • EVs: All in Special Attack and Speed, the rest in Special Defense.
  • Nature: Any neutral.
  • Ability: Tactical Shift.
  • Item: Lifesphere.

Neutral Nature as we are interested in all of Aegislash’s stats. Otherwise typical for an offense, only we’ve buffed up its special side further to hit harder with Shadow Ball, our main STAB Attack that neutrally hits almost all Types and will wreak havoc on Ghosts like Corsola de Galar and Psykers like Slowbro of Galar  or Alakazam.

BEST MOVES

Best moves for Offensive Aegislash:

  • Shadow Ball : STAB Ghost, Special, 80 power, 100% accuracy, and a 20% chance to lower the target’s Special Defense. Ghost is effective against Ghost and Psychic.
  • Blaze Focus:  STAB Steel, Special, 80 power, 100% accuracy, and a 10% chance to lower the opponent’s Special Defense. Steel is effective against Ice, Fairy, and Rock.
  • Shadow Fel : STAB Ghost, Physical, 40 power, 100% accuracy, plus it’s a priority attack.
  • Royal Shield : We will protect ourselves from the enemy’s attack this turn (it has priority) and if he has attacked us, we will lower his Attack by one level. We will also return to the Shield form.

Optional move:

  • Point Blank : Fight, Physical, 120 power, 100% accuracy and will lower Aegislash’s Defense and Special Defense by one level. Tremendous attack as coverage, but it has the drawback of lowering our Defenses… Fighting comes in handy against Steel, Rock, Normal, Ice and Dark. Also to blow up Tyranitar  and our best option against Steels in general. I like it a lot, but it is also true that it would be a difficult choice to remove one of the previous movements, you decide.

The key is to play with Royal Shield to resist attacks while reducing Pokémon that hit from the physical side and recovering the Shield form so that when they hit us (normally we will be slower) at least we resist well to later attack very hard (remember that when attacking, just at the moment of making the movement, we will return to the Sword form).

We have two good STAB but with the drawback of low coverage and we have a Priority attack to finish off Pokémon that are about to die.

With this Strategy we will hit very hard and on top of that we will be a difficult Pokémon to kill; we have a protection that lowers the opponent’s attack if he hits us, we have a priority movement… it’s incredible.
