MANE FLAP STRATEGY IN COMPETITIVE POKÉMON

MANE FLAP STRATEGY IN COMPETITIVE POKÉMON

With the arrival of the ninth generation and the paradoxes are decisive in Competitive Pokémon . Their good typing, tremendous stats, and wide variety of moves at their disposal make these Pokémon tremendous beasts that you need to know how to use and how to counter.

Today we are going to see the guide to one of the most powerful of all paradoxes, the great Melenaleteo (Flutter Mane in English). It is one of those Pokémon that determines what is played due to its tremendous offensive potential, being compared to Pokémon such as Zacian or Calyrex Spectral Rider . Let’s see why this Pokémon is so powerful.

    ? MANEFLAP STATS

Maneleteo has some very polarized statistics, tremendously boosting one part and leaving another very low:

    • Health: 55.
    • Attack: 55.
    • Defense: 55.
    • Special Attack: 135.
    • Special Defense: 135.
    • Speed: 135.

His statistics add up to 570 points , well above average. But it’s its cast that makes this Pokemon the beast it is.

Defensively it is terrible. Even having 135 in Special Defense (which is very high) this Pokémon resists very little due to its 55 points in Health, which means that boosting its survival is not worth it. His Defense doesn’t help either, also at 55.

But offensively it’s nonsense; 135 in Special Attack and Speed. Not only does it have tremendous damage, it is also one of the fastest Pokemon around. Tremendous.

    TYPE, RESISTANCES AND WEAKNESSES

Fluttermane is a Ghost Fairy-type . Let’s see its resistances and weaknesses:

    • He is immune to Normal, Fighting, and Dragon.
    • It is very resistant to Bug.
    • It is weak to Ghost and Steel.

Despite only having one resistance to Bug (although it is 1/4 damage taken), having 3 immunities is very interesting when it comes to making changes and predicting attacks.

Let’s look at its weaknesses, although remember that high damage from a neutral hit will wreak havoc on us. Being such a fast Pokémon you must be careful with priority movements:

    • Ghost : Be very careful with Pokémon that use Vile Shadow, a physical movement with priority that will do tremendous damage to us. Ceruledge or Mimikyu are good examples of Pokemon with this move that will do a lot of physical damage.
    • Steel : It is a very common type and the movement with priority Punch Bullet will hit us with priority. As many of you will be thinking,  Scizor is a danger.

    FLAPMANE ABILITIES

The same ability as the rest of the exclusive paradoxes of Pokémon Scarlet:

    PALEOSYNTHESIS

If the weather is Sun, the Pokémon sees its best stat increased. This ability can also be activated if the Pokémon has the Power Up Energy item equipped (it is consumed upon activation, so if it returns to its ball it will not activate again). By having 135 in 3 of his stats, it will be Nature that determines which stat will receive the increase.

    IVS, EVS AND NATURE

The perfect Iv’s and special sweeper Ev’s :

    • EV’s : 252 in Special Attack, 252 in Speed and 4 in Health. I facilitate.
    • Nature : His best option Fearful Nature (+Speed, -Attack) that will improve our Speed when activating his ability, but if we can control Speed in another way (Tailor Wind with Kilowattrel for example) we can use Modest (+Special Attack, – Attack) to improve our Special Attack. Keep in mind that against other Fluttermane we will be slower if we do not control the Speed.

    RECOMMENDED ITEM

These are the objects that we recommend for Maneleteo:

    • Boosting Energy : When entering the field, the Pokémon consumes the object to activate its ability (it only works with paradoxes and its Paleosynthesis and Quark Charge abilities).
    • Vidasfera : Enhances the damage produced by 30% and damages our Pokémon for 10% of its life. If we have a Pokémon that places Sun, activating our ability, Life Orb will make our Fluttermane do absurd damage.
    • Focus Band : If we are at full Health and an opponent’s attack is going to weaken us in one hit (OHKO), we will hold with 1 Health. It is a very good object to absorb a blow that the opponent does not expect.

    BEST MOVES FOR FLUTTERMANE

It has many options and some movements that will surprise you. Let’s see which are the most recommended:

    • Magic Glow : Fairy STAB, Special, 80 power and 100% accuracy. In Doubles, hit both opponents. It will be very effective against Dragon, Fighting, and Dark-types. Our answer to Pokémon like Bramaluna , Lucario or Meowscarada .
    • Lunar Force : Fairy STAB, Special, 95 power and 100% accuracy. Has a 30% chance to lower the target’s Special Attack by one level.
    • Shadow Ball : Ghost STAB, Special, 80 power and 100% accuracy. Has a 20 chance to lower the target’s Special Defense by one stage. It’s our very effective damage against Ghost- and Psychic-types, smashing Pokemon like Gengar , Chandelure , or Armarouge to shreds .
    • Peace of Mind : Psychic, State. Raises the Pokémon using it’s Special Attack and Special Defense by one level. It is our boost , use it if the opponent is forced to change. With a +1 in Special Attack there are few Pokémon that can withstand the type against our Fluttermane.
    • Haunted Flame : Fire, Special, 75 power and 100% accuracy. Always lowers the target’s Special Attack by one stage. It’s great for Pokemon like Amoonguss , Alolan Ninetales, or Tinkaton .
    • Wind Ice : Ice, Special, 55 power and 95% accuracy. Lowers the opponent’s Speed by one level and in Doubles VGC hits both opponents. It’s our way of lowering the opponent’s Speed, as well as doing very effective damage to Dragon, Grass, Ground, and Flying types. Despite the low power it will do a lot of damage to Pokemon like Garchomp and Salamence .
    • Trick Room : Psychic, Status, reverses the order of moves by Speed for 5 turns, moving the slowest first (see our guide for a more detailed explanation). We will see in strategies why to carry this movement with our Melenaleteo.
    • Protection : Normal, Status, high priority. The Pokémon prevents all damage or status moves this turn. A must in Doubles VGC.

    FLUTTER MANE STRATEGIES

Let’s see how to use our Maneleteo in the best way:

FLUTTERMANE SWEEPER – KILL FIRST, ASK LATER (SINGLES OU)

    • IVs: Perfect.
    • EVs: 252 Special Attack, 4 Health, 252 Speed.
    • Nature: Cheerful.
    • Item: Empowering Energy / Life Orb.
    • Skill: Paleosynthesis.
    • Movements:
      • Moon Force.
      • Shadow ball.
      • Peace of mind.
      • Haunted Flame.

In the same way as other attackers ( sweepers) , in this set we carry two STAB moves, a coverage and a boost move . When we place Fluttermane against a Pokémon that is going to switch, we can use our Peace of Mind to boost our damage even more, but be careful because a hard hit will weaken us, especially on the physical side. Boost Energy is fantastic and with this set it will boost our Speed to hit other Flapmane faster. Finally, Haunted Flame is the most recommended coverage for those uncomfortable Steel types.

MANELETEO SWEEPER – THE HALF METER TERROR (VGC DOUBLES)

    • IVs: Perfect.
    • EVs: 252 in Special Attack, 4 in Health and 252 in Speed.
    • Nature: Cheerful.
    • Item: Empowering Energy / Focus Band.
    • Skill: Paleosynthesis.
    • Movements:
      • Magic shine.
      • Shadow ball.
      • Wind Ice.
      • Rare Space / Protection.

This set has a couple of very interesting tricks. On the damage side it’s simple; 2 STAB on Glow Magic (best in Doubles when hitting both opponents) and Shadow Ball. Ice Wind will not only hit some very common Pokémon like Dragonite hard , we will also lower their Speed. Protection is very safe for the aforementioned priority attacks, but Trick Room is a very interesting cheat.

Being a very fast Pokémon, Fluffmane doesn’t take advantage of Trick Space well, but we won’t be using it to make it our sweeper. When the opponent has a very fast Pokémon that Maneleteo can’t deal with, we can change the order of Speeds and hit him with another of our Pokémon. Having an attacker that helps us control Speed in non-sweeping games is a luxury.

    MANEFLUTTER TERACRYSTALLIZATION

    • Teracrystallization Fairy.

The damage from its STAB Magical Glow and Lunar Force when teracrystallizing Hada is tremendous, shredding many Pokemon it neutrally hits. Keep in mind that we lose immunity to Normal and Fighting.

HOW TO DEFEAT FLUTTERMANE AND COUNTERS

Let’s see how you can face this true beast in your fights:

    • Priority Moves : We’ve already mentioned Pokémon like Scizor or Mimikyu, but they’re not the only ones. Palafin with his Jet Fist does tremendous damage to Maneflap
    • Rare Space : Despite being a move that Fluttermane can use, it is a Pokémon that is not comfortable when it is active.
