These days I have been testing the demo of Back to the Dawn and you know that if the game catches your attention you still have time to try it until July 24, 2023 , I leave you the Steam link here .
It is an independent game in which we will have to escape from a prison. It is a game quite similar to “The Escapists” (it is quite popular, so if you know it, you will get the idea) but of course contributing new ideas (the characters are furries for example) and a very different visual style.
The truth is that the game, from what I have been able to prove, does not look bad at all. Although… it is true that in the demo you could only play 3 days of the 21 days I think (day up day down) that you have to escape from prison. In addition, there were many things that were not available during the demo, but with what they offered at least if it gave you a general idea of more or less what the game can end up being.
So nothing, I’ll tell you a little about my first impressions of Back to Dawn and I’ll explain in more detail what it’s about, what you can expect from it and that kind of thing. He left you the trailer below in case you want to take a look and below I continue with the post.
WHAT IS BACK TO THE DAWN ABOUT?
In the demo only the story of one character was available, it seems that in the original version you will be able to choose 3 different ones each with their own history, statistics, abilities… and besides this, I found this very interesting, each character You can choose 3 different pasts (different experiences that your character has had that give them certain abilities and statistics), so customization is an aspect that is very well managed and these things in the end add a lot of replayability (like, first I’m going to spend the game playing the role of a convict who achieves his objectives through force and in another game I want to be one who achieves things through his charisma or intelligence).
The character that I was able to test is a journalist fox who, after doing a report on a certain company that allegedly dumped waste into a river (this was affecting the health of the residents of the area and the environment), ends up in prison precisely because “someone I wanted to get rid of it.” Basically, they put drugs or something like that in his car and notify the police so that, in short, they think that he is a dealer.
So our goal will be to get out of jail and uncover the obvious conspiracy behind all this. I imagine we can escape in different ways, as in the demo you could only play 3 days out of 21, because personally I couldn’t escape (will it be possible to escape in just 3 days?). From what I played… it seems that through the infirmary and also from our own room, it could be achieved; But what has been said, that in the end I have been able to see very little of the game.
Oh, and it looks like it’s going to be your typical multi-ending game. And you will wonder… how do you know that if you have not unlocked any? Well, because in fact I did get an ending, but it is the typical «Bad Ending». I wanted to test what would happen if, let’s say, my character accepted a certain remuneration from a certain person asking him to put the investigation aside and I got a “Bad Ending”; Those little details are quite cool to me… although it is true that this “Bad Ending” could have been polished a little more (I would have liked to see better what happens based on that decision).
PRISON LIFE
It seems that getting out of there is not going to be easy because that prison is not a normal prison (or so I want to think, come on). In my case, for example, surely partly as a result of inexperience, I had a lot of problems managing “hunger” because in that prison they are VERY rancid and they don’t give you enough food, so if you don’t have a lot of money, you’ll probably starve to death. .
You will have to deal with hunger, with… “sanity” (your mental health, come on), your bodily needs (it has a digestion system, you will have to go to the bathroom; now that I think about it, I should have tried what happens if you reach the maximum of “need to be expelled”, I imagine that it will be done on top of it?) and all this taking into account that you have a very marked routine (prison is what it has) so you will have to try to optimize the times to maintain your character in the best possible condition.
You can improve attributes such as Strength, Agility, Intelligence… which are things that will later come in handy when performing certain actions. But I also tell you, up to this point it is somewhat complex because the jail is in a balance of powers between several brotherhoods and each one has a bit of its territory… if you want to go to the gym (to increase your Strength and such) you have 2 options:
- Being of the Brotherhood that has control of that facility.
- Pay. Yes, what I was telling you, you are going to need a lot of money in this jail.
And I already anticipate that almost all the relevant areas are under the control of some brotherhood, so you are very interested in joining the one whose territory fits more with what you want to enhance your character. One brotherhood has control of the library area, another the gym area, another the “cinema” (a room with a somewhat large TV and movies)… etc.
The truth is that the theme of brotherhoods looks good. To join them you will have to do missions for them in order to gain reputation with them. And yes, there is also a reputation system (general reputation and then guild reputation) with quite interesting rewards.
Since we are talking about “systems”, we must mention the friendship system because you will also have to manage your social relationships and well… you are interested in having friends (you will unlock little things), but what interests you above all is not having enemies, of course. I already warned you, there is a crocodile that is very sucker , watch out for him. By the way, another stat that I forgot to mention before is Charisma, which will help you a lot in this aspect of the game.
And well, I’m telling you that it won’t be due to systems, the truth is that for a prison, you have a lot to do in the game and I probably haven’t tried many of them since after all we’re talking about a demo.
GENERAL IMPRESSIONS AND A COMPLAINT
In general, the game looks very good: It looks very good and the truth is that it seems like a very entertaining game in its concept (it also seems that there are several extras such as various endings and characters, those things are cool), so I don’t lack wins to be able to play it in the definitive version .
But… there goes the complaint because the game is not translated into Spanish; I don’t know if they perhaps plan to translate it for the original, but it is true that it is quite cumbersome to have to play it in English because it is a game where the dialogues matter a lot. I hope they end up adding it because it would be a shame.
