by The Shadow of Kaneshiro is the third final boss of the Palace that we will have to defeat in Persona 5 Royal after finding his treasure and sending the notice. It is about the leader of the mafia that is dedicated to extorting students in the Shibuya area, although when you defeat him you will see, you will discover some rather interesting information about him.
He is a fairly simple boss, but it is true that if he catches you by surprise with some of his attacks, he can vent your entire team without problems. The good thing is that we will be able to take advantage of his tremendous gluttony for money (and that of his bodyguard, I’ll tell you now) and things of value to make a huge profit in this battle. But that said, if you know him well, you shouldn’t have any problem defeating him. So nothing, let’s go with the guide!
BATTLE PREPARATION AND WEAKNESSES
Some tips to make things a lot easier:
- Don’t Take Yusuke or Morgana : This is because Kaneshiro has Electric (Morgana is weak) and Fire (Yusuke is weak) attacks, so it would be more recommended that your team be Joker, Ann, Ryuji and Makoto (even so I took Morgana because she is a tremendous healer and I did it without problems). In this battle this is especially relevant since the Mechanical Pig (Piggietron) has the mechanic to attack again when hitting a weakness just like it happens with your characters.
- The Crystal of Gluttony : It is the object that you obtain by collecting all the Seeds of Desire from the Palace of Kaneshiro . It will be very useful as it provides an ability that will increase the Defense of the entire team for 3 turns.
- The Ring of Lust : Another highly recommended accessory since it provides us with a powerful healing ability that will also enhance the attack of the character we cure. This is achieved through the Seeds of Kamoshida’s Wish and after delivering it to José (the boy from Mementos).
- Bring PS and PE Medicines : You know, it’s always good to have.
- Sleeping Skills : They will come in handy (it’s almost mandatory in fact) in one of the phases of this battle. Other disabling status ailments are also an option, but sleep will be especially useful.
- Items/Ability to heal Altered States : The boss applies them often and if we don’t deal with them things can get a bit complicated.
Facing weaknesses , well, you’ll see, it happens as with Kamoshida ; that she has no weaknesses let’s go. Also, she doesn’t use physical attacks because she is resistant to them.
STRATEGY TO DEFEAT THE SHADOW OF KANESHIRO
We will divide the battle into 3 clearly differentiated phases:
PHASE 1: PIGGIETRON
The battle will begin with a confrontation against Piggytron, an enemy with a lot of health and quite powerful attacks, but we can reduce him a lot through debuffs . I highly recommend that you apply «Tarunda» (to reduce her Attack, Ann has this ability) and «Rakunda» (reduces Defense); doing this the battle is quite simplified, really. The Gluttony Crystal Ability will also come in handy.
As soon as you deal a little damage to him you will see that he will launch an attack in which Piggytron turns into a ball and launches towards you. When this happens, you can attack Kaneshiro, but the best thing to do is cover with all characters as this move deals A LOT of damage.
If the battle drags on, an event will appear in which you will have to select an object to throw at Kaneshiro. The more valuable the item, the more effective it will be. A menu will appear with your characters like the one in the photo above in which each one will propose something to you, as you can see in the photo, the character itself will tell you how effective it will be; As you can see, in this case Ryuji comments that we throw a Spiritual Snuff at him since he says it’s the most expensive thing we have (when you defeat him you get it back, so it doesn’t matter).
This will cause Kaneshiro to get distracted, so you’ll have a few turns where you can just attack without him doing anything to you.
When you defeat Piggy, the next phase will begin:
PHASE 2: THE BODYGUARDS FOR HIRE
In this phase you will face Kaneshiro directly, but he will call a couple of Bodyguards:
- Bodyguard for Hire : It is the big bug that carries two shields. It’s very annoying because it will cover Kaneshiro if you attack him.
- Hitman : This one is more oriented towards dealing damage. Kaneshiro will be applying altered states such as sleep, fear… to your team and this fly will be dedicated to technical attacks (like the ones your characters do).
The key to this is that you don’t even have to defeat them because all you have to do is put them to sleep so they don’t bother you (remember that Ann, for example, has the Dormina ability), so you can focus on damaging Kaneshiro (don’t attack them or they’ll wake up). When they wake up, you put them back to sleep and that’s it. The thing is that, do not bother.
Of course, when you see that Kaneshiro is running low on life, make sure that your team has high enough health because the battle will end with a rather devastating attack.
PHASE 3: RAIN OF MONEY
When Kaneshiro is in his final stages, he will launch his Money Rain attack (I don’t remember if it’s called exactly like that, but hey, it’s understandable) in which he will basically attack us with his money (it will fall from the sky causing a lot of damage to the whole team).
This phase is quite bad vibes the first time you see it, but you’ll see that it’s not that bad. The thing is, he will have less and less money, so in the end he will do little damage and eventually he will run out of money and can no longer use it. Also, it’s quite funny because the Bodyguards, seeing that he has run out of money, will leave him stranded. So nothing, at this point all you have to do is finish him off; Congratulations!
