by The Chromatic Apparition is the fifth boss of Sea of Stars and is the boss we were able to face during the game demo. I played the demo back in the day and the truth is that the boss at that time seemed much more complicated to me than it seems to me now in my run of the already released game.
I don’t think they have reduced the difficulty of the boss, well, who knows really, but I think it’s most likely that I simply understand the mechanics of the game better now and I imagine that it is becoming noticeable.
The truth is that it seemed like a fairly simple boss to me… I hope the game brings more difficult bosses later, I imagine so. Oh, and of course I’m not using relics (they are objects that are designed to make the game easier and more accessible) because I want to make it more “normal”, let’s say. But hey, for a change I’m going off the deep end with the intro, let’s get on with the post!
HOW TO DEFEAT CHROMATIC APPARITION IN SEA OF STARS
We will start as always by looking at all his attacks and after this I will give you some more generic advice that can be quite helpful.
ATTACK GUIDE
The Chromatic Apparition will change shape between a humanoid shape (the one in the photo above) and a shape that I have called “ball shape” because in short, it becomes a kind of strange gravitational ball. Depending on the form you will have to use different types of attacks (we will see that below in tips) and your attack kit will also change.
Let’s start with the Humanoid Form, which is the way the battle begins:
- Fist Blow : A basic attack in which he will put his hands together and then hit us, you must press the action button just when he is going to hit you as usual.
- Summon : It will summon a very particular bug because we will not be able to harm it with anything and it will only have 1 life. Your thing is that you ignore him and as soon as the typical damage type squares appear on the enemy, try as a priority to hit him with the attack types that he indicates or else you will receive a lot of damage. If you manage to hit him with all types of attacks you will defeat the enemy, it is the only way to defeat him .
Now let’s go with the ball shape, it will eventually change to this shape during the battle:
- Throw Balls (eye) : It will summon several balls and quickly throw them towards a character on the team. He will throw 3 different sets of balls with little waiting time between each of them, so be careful to make 3 blocks (with some separation between them, but 3 blocks at the same time). Be careful with this attack because it does incredible damage, it is very likely that it will knock down the character you throw it at unless your life is almost at maximum and you block perfectly (Garl is one of the few who can withstand the damage in the event that you do the blocking very badly as long as your life is going well).
- Arcane Singularity (avoidable) : You will have to hit him with the weapons/items indicated by the boss to prevent him from carrying out the attack. If you don’t succeed, he will perform an attack in which the boss will absorb us and then throw us, which means that all our characters will receive damage. Luckily it is not an attack that does that much damage, but it is better to avoid it. Plus, it’s easy to block, press the action button right when it launches all the characters.
TIPS FOR BATTLE
Now let’s go with some tips to make the battle easier if possible. First of all, let me tell you how you should attack him according to his shape:
- Humanoid form : In this form the boss will resist physical damage, so it is the best time to throw all our elemental abilities at him and only use basic attacks when strictly necessary.
- Ball Form : Just the opposite will happen here, the boss will be weak to physical damage, so you should always attack him with basic attacks. In the process we will save MP and elemental orbs for the humanoid phase, which is when these things will really spread.
Regarding the use of Combo Points, I recommend that you use the healing skill only if you are in serious trouble and that you try to save them for the offensive; you should take the boss’s damage just fine with Garl’s heals and healing items (remember that it’s best for Garl to be the one using the items so you don’t lose turns from the Solstice Warriors).
If you have achieved the Combo ability called ” Picado ” (a combined attack between Garl and Valere) I recommend that you use it when the boss is in ball form because it is a very powerful physical attack (costs two Combo Points) and you will cause him a terrible damage with him when he is in this form (to deal more damage, press the action button just as Valere is about to fall to the ground).
