GHOLDENGO STRATEGY IN COMPETITIVE POKÉMON

GHOLDENGO STRATEGY IN COMPETITIVE POKÉMON

Gholdengo is a rather peculiar Pokémon and the truth is that its kit has surprised me quite a bit because it has a very interesting combination of statistics, movements and type and without a doubt it is a Pokémon to take into account for the competitive game.

And that’s not all, in addition, this Pokémon has an ability and also an exclusive movement that are frankly very good. The only drawback I see is that it has a somewhat low Speed, but you can’t have everything in this life I guess.

The case, I leave you with the complete analysis and below its strategies, let’s go there!

    ? GHOLDENGO’S STATS

His statistics add up to a total of 550 points , so not bad at first. Anyway, as always, what ends up important is its cast:

    • Health: 87.
    • Attack: 60.
    • Defense: 95.
    • Special Attack: 133.
    • Special Defense: 91.
    • Speed: 84.

What stands out in the first place is that crazy Special Attack, because yes, 133 is silly and will cause havoc with its attacks. But… his Speed, much to my regret, is somewhat low, so it will be quite easy for another offensive to surpass him in this aspect and cause him a lot of damage.

Defensively it’s pretty good for an offensive Pokémon as well, so we’re not dealing with the typical Glass Canon, which is something that’s appreciated. Although that Speed keeps grinding us a bit, the truth is.

    TYPE, RESISTANCES AND WEAKNESSES

Armarouge is a Ghost Steel-Type  just like Aegislash  and therefore has these weaknesses and resistances:

    • He is immune to Fighting, Normal, and Poison. Also to Poison’s altered state and Surprise move.
    • It is very resistant to Bug.
    • It is resistant to Flying, Grass, Dragon, Fairy, Psychic, Rock, Steel, and Ice.
    • It is weak to Dark, Ghost, Fire and Ground.

As you can see, defensively this combination of types is outrageous, it has an enormous amount of resistances and therefore it will be able to withstand the blows of many Pokémon well.

Regarding its weaknesses, some are worrisome, but it is still quite good; Anyway we comment each one:

    • Sinister : Not too dangerous, but like all weaknesses it must be taken into account. You’ll need to watch out against Pokemon like Weavile ,  Tyranitar  , or Kingambit.
    • Ghost : You have to watch out especially in 9th generation since there are Pokémon of this type that are widely used and very powerful. Be careful against Annihilape or Ceruledge to mention a few examples.
    • Fire : It is not the type that you should fear the most, but its Pokémon because they are usually very good. Cinderace ,  Talonflame  or Volcarona would be clear examples.
    • Ground : One of the types that you should fear the most due to its presence both in type and in coverage movements. Garchomp or Excadrill can wreak havoc on you.

    GOLDEN BODY: HIS EXCLUSIVE ABILITY

This is the only ability that Gholdengo has and it is the only Pokémon that has it at the moment.

The truth is that it is very good because it will prevent them from launching status movements at our Pokémon, so no Mocking, Thunder Wave or Trick among many others. Oh, and of course, tremendous F for Grimmsnarl .

    IVS, EVS AND NATURE

The perfect Iv’s, the usual we go; regarding EV’s and Nature:

    • EV’s : 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, 4 Special Defense.
    • Nature : Modest (+Special Attack, –Attack) or Fearful (+Speed, -Attack).

    RECOMMENDED ITEM

These are the objects that we most recommend for Gholdengo:

    • Choice Scarf : Increases our Speed by 50%, but when using a movement we will be forced to always use that same movement until we return the Pokémon to its Poké Ball. The option that I recommend the most in general since we will need that Speed a lot.
    • Choice Glasses : Like the Handkerchief but increasing our special damage by 50%.
    • Vidasfera : Increases our damage by 30% but as a bad part we will lose 10% of our health when making an offensive attack.
    • Vest : Increases Special Defense by 50% but we will not be able to perform status movements. The downside is that we won’t be able to use Recovery, but it’s still a very interesting item.

    GOLDEN RUSH: HIS SIGNATURE MOVE

    • STAB Steel.
    • Special.
    • 12th Power.
    • 100 Accuracy.
    • Lowers the user’s Special Attack by one stage.

Golden Rush is a very powerful attack with which we will have Steel STAB and with maximum precision. The downside is that using it will reduce our Special Attack, but it’s a fairly minor drawback since it’s enough to change the Pokémon and that’s it.

Also, this attack hits both enemies at the same time in Doubles/VGC, so be careful.

    BEST MOVES FOR GHOLDENGO

The movements that I recommend the most for Armarouge:

    • Golden Rush : Our favorite Steel STAB, as we have already mentioned above, is a piece of movement. Remember that Steel is very effective against Fairy, Ice and Rock. It will be a good option against Pokemon like Iron Paladin, Baxcalibur , or Glimmora.
    • Shadow Ball : STAB Ghost, 80 power, 100% accuracy, and a 20% chance to reduce the target’s Special Defense. Ghost is very effective against other Ghosts and Psychic. Against Dragapult (if he doesn’t kill you first, which is most likely), Skeledirge , or Armarouge .
    • Magic Glow : Fairy, special, 80 power, 100% accuracy and hits all opponents in Doubles/VGC. Fairy coverage that will come in handy especially against Dragons like Dragonite or Garchomp . But it will also be great against Fighting-types like the aforementioned Annihilape or Quaquaval .
    • True Wave : Fighting, Special, 120 Power, 70% Accuracy, and a 10% chance to drop Special Defense by 1. Tremendous coverage move for Rock, Steel, and Bug for Pokemon like Scizor, Orthworm, or of course Tyranitar .
    • Lightning : Electric, Special, 90 power, 100% accuracy and a 10% chance to paralyze the enemy. Other coverage for Volador and Agua; for Corviknight or Dondozo for example.
    • Recovery : The Pokémon restores 50% of its maximum health.

    GHOLDENGO STRATEGIES

We show you the strategies we have created for this Pokémon.

    GHOLDENGO SWEEPER (SINGLES AND DOUBLES/VGC)

    • IVs: Perfect.
    • EVs: 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, 4 Special Defense.
    • Nature: Modest (+Special Attack, -Attack).
    • Item: Choice Scarf / Choice Glasses
    • Ability: Golden Body.
    • Movements:
      • Shadow ball
      • golden rush
      • magic shine
      • True Wave / Lightning

With this set we will be very fast and we will also hit very hard since we also have very good movements and tremendous coverage . Beware of other faster Pokemon with Choice Scarf as they might give you quite a scare.

Choice glasses in case you go with a Pokémon that puts Tailwind like Kilowattrel or Pelipper .

    GHOLDENGO ROMPEMUROS (SINGLES)

    • IVs: Perfect.
    • EVs: 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, 4 Special Defense.
    • Nature: Modest (+Special Attack, -Attack).
    • Item: Life Orb / Choice Glasses.
    • Ability: Golden Body.
    • Movements:
      • Shadow ball
      • golden rush
      • Accurate wave
      • Magic Shine / Recovery

Set very similar to the previous one but since it is a Wall Breaker and tank Pokémon like Gargancl,  Ferrothorn or Toxapex are usually slower because Speed will be a little the same and we will maximize their offense. Again we have tremendous coverage and if you decide to put on the Life Orb you can put on Recovery in case a Tank lasts longer than necessary to heal you.

    GHOLDENGO TERACRYSTALLIZATION

    • Teracrystallization Steel .

The ideal would be to use Teracrystallization of Steel in order to have a very powerful double STAB hit with its exclusive movement (Golden Rush), which also has 120 power so you can already imagine the tremendous blow you will give.

HOW TO DEFEAT GHOLDENGO AND COUNTERS

    Dragapult in Pokémon

And now what you must do if you want to defeat him:

    • Faster Pokémon that hit a weakness : Pokémon like Dragapult, Garchomp or Blaziken will have it very easy.
    • Cheap Punch : Powerful Pokemon with this move can 1HKO it with priority, for example Kingambit.
    • Vast Guard : As it is a “Protection” that protects both Pokémon on our team, it is very effective against him to deal with his Gold Fever.
