During act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3 , the main objective of our characters will be to cure that strange parasite that they have introduced to us at the beginning of the adventure and one of those “possible cures” that we can find is related to the character who stars in this post: Nettie the Healer .
It is quite unlikely that you will not activate his mission by advancing a little in Act 1 (almost nothing really) as long as you interact with the people you meet on the way to the Emerald Grove and select the typical ” “I’m looking for a healer” or something like that. There are several characters who will recommend you visit Nettie the Healer and by doing so you will unlock a sub-mission “Ask Healer Nettie for help” within the “Find a Cure” mission.
I already told you that talking to her will not allow you to cure the parasite and well… depending on the decisions you make, she may even try to kill you, but well, now I explain to you what you should do depending on what you prefer.
NETTIE THE HEALER LOCATION
She is a Dwarf Druid and you will find her in the Emerald Grove . Finding it doesn’t have much of a mystery since it is in that closed area (you will have to enter through a stone door) where we must enter to talk to Kagha (the girl who wanted to lock up a Tiefling girl and who is having trouble in the Grove).
In one of the rooms in this area is where you can talk to Nettie the Healer, it is not very complicated. The exact coordinates are “x:-439 Y:-6”.
CONVERSATION WITH NETTIE AND DECISIONS
When interacting with Nettie you will find her healing a little bird and she will ask you to wait a moment, I recommend that you be nice to her, but that, as always, is up to your choice, now I will explain to you anyway what things can happen depending on the attitude you take .
At first you must select the answers in which you ask Nettie for help to cure you, you have to tell her that you have the parasite and so on, otherwise she will tell you that she doesn’t see that you are wrong in any way and she will ignore you a little. As soon as you do, she will take you to a secret room close to where you talked where she will show you another person who suffered from the parasite and well… he’s kind of dead basically.
Here you can take two different paths , how you act with her is important because basically she fears that you will become a Mind Scourge and is completely willing to kill you at the slightest chance. In fact, you will see that she will eventually pull a twig of some kind of plant off the table, this is basically because she is preparing to kill you at any moment. As you can see, the situation is quite tricky, but I tell you:
YOU ARE KIND TO HER
If you are nice to her she will trust you and simply recommend that you talk to Halsin (the former leader of the grove). He will give you a powerful poison (below you can see the effects of it) and he will ask you to promise that you will take it in case he notices that the disease is progressing and that you are becoming a danger to everyone.
Here you decide, if you promise him, he will give you the poison (which you can then use for your benefit) and that’s it, nothing else will happen. If you don’t promise her then she will start a battle in which she will try to finish you off.
In my case, this is the route I took in my first game, except that I decided to tell her that I wasn’t going to take the poison (basically because I didn’t think it was right for her to impose something like that on us, it’s up to us to make a decision like that), so I finished with her and that’s it (it’s not a complicated battle, after all she’s alone and she’s not that powerful). I think it is the best possible ending because you can get some pretty juicy rewards (I’ll tell you below) and at the end of the day, it is she herself who decides to attack us, so no one will consider this as a bad action (and it will not affect Oaths of Paladin) .
YOU ARE EDGE WITH HER
Eventually, Nettie will ask you to give her your arm to “cure” you, only her method is somewhat… peculiar, since she is basically going to poison you (let’s see, the parasite eliminates it, but of course… hahaha). In fact, never agree to put your arm near her because she will apply the poison to you and even though he will not kill us (we are tough), he will apply a debuff to us that will weaken us enormously.
She is not willing to let you go… there are many possible routes here, but whether you threaten her, persuade her or anything else, only two things can happen:
- Let him tell you about promising that you will take poison if you notice symptoms, as occurs in the “morally correct route.” That either you agree to it or he will attack you.
- Let him attack you.
Since if you take this path it is because you are probably playing a role of “being a bad guy”, my recommendation is that you break up with her and that’s it, but as I said, you make the decisions.
Whichever route you take, if you end up ending up with it, here’s what you can get in the process. There doesn’t seem to be any kind of negative consequence for breaking up with her, really, at least if she’s the one who starts the attack.
REWARDS FOR KILLING NETTIE
This is what we can get by finishing it. We’ll start with the loot that you can loot from his body:
- Good Berries x2 : Each is a unit of Camp Supplies. You can also consume them to heal yourself for 1-4 hit points (health, wow).
- Elixir of Silvanus : An antidote that neutralizes all poisons, so if you end up poisoned you can take it and that’s it. But the best thing would be to avoid it poisoning you so you can save it for whatever may arise.
- Wyvern Toxin : The poison that would be given to us if we decided to promise that we would take a poison if we noticed symptoms. Applies 1d8 poison to the weapon for 10 turns.
- Staff : His staff, it’s common, it’s not worth it, so sell it.
- Key of the Ancients : This is a tiara that you can equip on your head and will give you +1 Nature. It will also allow you to come and go as you please from Nettie’s secret room (where she takes you to be “healed”). You will have to equip it to someone to leave the room.
- Simple Tunic : A clothing type armor that is pretty meh.
If you interact with the Dissected Drow in the room, you will find that he has a note. This doesn’t activate anything, but hey, you’ll see what it puts in it. Also, if you are interested in lore , you can perform a “Talk to the Dead” spell (in the area where we found Mustio you can get an amulet that grants this effect) to obtain information about what happened to this Drow. The good thing is that you can get Inspiration from this.
Now, if you decide to steal things in this area, these are some interesting things you can find:
- Mindbanger Parasite Specimen .
- Several books if you loot the various shelves in the area. You can make a lot of money selling them.
- Scroll of Expeditious Retreat : Have a mage learn it, so they can always use the spell. He will allow us to run as an additional action each turn. It is located on one of the shelves.
- Mage Armor Scroll : Another scroll, this one teaches a spell that increases Armor Class by 13 plus the Dexterity modifier. On another shelf.
- Scroll of Detect Thoughts : Interesting spell as it will allow us to read someone’s thoughts.
Here you will also find a series of Runes, but we will leave this for another post that I will do later, since you will have to do a series of things to solve this puzzle.
